Man who suffered brain damage after a suicide attempt wakes up unable to feel any emotion
- Samuel Bishop, 20, from Plymouth, tried to take his own life last July
- Was found just hours from death - and with extensive brain damage
- Defied medical expectations to walk and talk again, and has recovered well
- But the part of his brain responsible for emotion is permanently damaged - meaning he can no longer feel sadness or anxiety
....
He said he now sometimes finds it impossible not to smile - and even struggles to keep a straight face when talking about serious topics.
'Sometimes I can find myself smiling even when I know I shouldn't look happy but I can't control it.
'Then I smile even more and then start laughing because I'm trying to stop myself from smiling.'
It was in July last year that Mr Bishop, from Plymouth, tried to take his own life.
