More than 400 people are believed to have watched the live stream, some of whom desperately tried to alert Facebook to the situation;

Hanging seems to be the preferred method for livestreaming. I've seen so many of them. I hope the guy found peace.

This was local to me. People who saw that live stream are so traumatised.

I am a computer idiot. I just can't imagine how (or why) someone could do that, have many people watching, and no one could find him(?) and interrupt?

Facebook can't even get Russian's interfering in elections off their site, you think they're going to interfere in someone's suicide?

Yes. All livestreamed ctbs I know were done by hanging. I don't support livestreaming suicide. It should be a private, so personal solitary act. No one should witness.

What would be the rationale for doing this? Is it attention seeking? Is it hey everyone look I killed myself? Are they drama queens? I'm trying to understand.

I don't know. I can't understand people who do this. Why showing someone how are you going to kill yourself ?!

I feel the same way, but I'm not vehemently against it. People can do whatever the fuck makes them happy. It just seems melodramatic and motive driven to me.

Like anyone actually cares either way? We're a rare breed middle of the spectrum. Most people would either A: Cheer them on or B: Try to stop them.

I guess in some way people who livestream want to be helped. There's no other rational explanation.

I feel like it's definitely a cry for help in some way shape or form. That or some sort of "revenge" type act. Atleast in their mind.

maybe he just didnt want to feel completely alone in his last moments and/or make the video was a kind of distraction for him. Maybe it helped overcome SI a bit. Of course one one will ever really know for sure

For some of us who want to broadcast it is more showing pain then anything and what the world has led some people to do (being death the only way out).
It's not about attention but more of what somes reality is.
I also feel if some dont like it then don't watch. That simple.

I hope he is at peace. But that was very dangerous what he did. He could've been in a wheelchair or worse if he was found before. Though I wish I knew how long he was hanging before he was found. Apparently someone drove to his house but police were there.

It said in the article that he was frustrated by the waiting time to see the psychiatrist. He was a mental health activist so maybe he wanted to do something drastic to draw attention to the crisis in the UK mental health services.

No way of telling why he did it, but the article is great on explaining how mental health services are failing us. He spent his life trying to draw attention to it, so it's possible he tried to use this as a message to get his point across?

No it was taken down straight away. FB left a post on his wall for ages that said "I'm going to hang myself today" though.

This is not far from me. He clearly meant to make a statement and the poor man had had enough. Mental health support in the UK is shocking and there will be more of his due to Covid and the lockdown.

There is a huge crisis in the NHS MHS. I'm a victim of it. It's bad. This is why I pay privately for my counselling now.

Personally, I don't condemn this guy for streaming his suicide online, because since the society doesn't care to provide him (or any other suffering man) with possibility to end his life in peace and dignity, then why would he care if anybody got traumatized by the view of his brutal final exit?
