We have at this moment 733 visitors of this forum. 232 members and 501 guests. The guests outnumber us (the members) quite often. In other threads we have already talked about them. There was an interesting theory. People with a big career or even celebrities don't join and keep guests because they fear of getting doxxed or identified and then their career would be over. This was an interesting theory. I have not thought about it before. It might be true.

There will be different types of lurkers. People who are just curious about suicidal people (Maybe some of them are bored with their normie lives and want to feel better and compare their life with ours.) This reminds me of this subreddit watchpeopledie. But there are also other people. Some might be journalists who do research for their next story about this allegedly "death cult". Some are scientists who study the behavior of suicidal people. I think this is only a small minority but I am convinced they exist. I have read science articles about suicide forums and yes this is what they do. Of course mostly without consense. Though their articles are way more balanced than the articles of the media. So guys if you ask me you can go on with your job.

The vast majority will be suicidal people who are either depressed or have other bad health conditions. Some might join us. Others won't maybe because of all the trouble the website is often in. Some might be scared to get in contact with us. It is a long time ago when I was a lurker. I barely can remember. I was not sure how I shall think about this abbreviation ctb. I was hesistant to use it. Now I have elaborated on why I and other people use euphemisms for commiting suicide but this belongs to another thread. I changed my mind on it.

Maybe there are also people who find interest in morbid topics and feel at home when they watch us. There is probably a small minority who feels pleasure when they see people suffer. Some might even get sexually attracted to that stuff. Feels kind of weird to think about that.

I almost forgot the pro-lifers who want to shut this forum down. There are many of them. We could also differntiate between them. They are quite heterogeneous. I also have elaborated on them in other threads.

Not sure what I want to tell them. It is quite complicated because these are very different groups. Normally they might read my stuff or the stuff of other users. But for us they remain a secret. I could well imagine it is like watching a comedy or a tragedy however you wanna put it.

Have I forgot a group? Probably so. And if the lurker who reads this feels excluded I feel sorry for him/her. But only if he has good intentions.

What are spiders? I am always not sure how paranoid I should be but you think there are data miners? What do they do with the data?

They're all synonomous. Usually search engines... could be anything, mostly search engines... to a much lesser extent, possibly China, they're probably worse than the NSA when it comes to data hoarding, perhaps various agencies, researchers, etc... but mostly search engines.

When I joined, resources were limited and I couldn't see the site without signing up. If SS was accessible like it is right now with all of its resources, I would've been a lurker too honestly.

i started as a lurker just looking for the methods so i could utilize the information for my own suicide. i found this site while researching methods. then i found out about SN and realized there were too many things i couldn't access without an account and had so many questions that i needed an account to ask. now here i am almost two years later

I'm one of the lurkers you are talking about. After you read a certain number of posts you are required to join if you want to continue, at least that is the way it worked for me.

I'm not suicidal, I recognize that makes me not really part of the group. On the other hand, like everyone else, I will have to face my own mortality eventually, like it or not. For that reason the thoughts and actions of people who wish to leave early interest me, I'm not even sure why exactly.

What can they do with it now? Probably not a whole lot except gather info unless you're part of an active investigation. It all depends on the state of AI. FB. Google, NSA, etc.. and like I mentioned, China are basically profiling the world. China is actively collecting as much DNA and personal data as they possibly can. Once AI is up to task, it'll be easy to associate data with individuals. All it takes is 2 or 3 random identifiers of any sort and you can easily be identified. Even Tor was compromised years ago. Bitcoin isn't anonymous. It's being tracked too.

I'm guessing the majority are others looking for methods and are not interested in joining the conversation. It would be cool to know how many unique lurkers there are in any given day.

To any lurkers reading this, all I want to say is: This forum helps.

I lurked for a long time before joining and I pretty often am rather quiet here still. Mostly for the worry of being somehow identified, although reasonably I know that isn't a likelihood. So I relate to the headspace people are in as lurkers.

This is why I mostly comment, posting draws too much attention, and with all the articles and attempts to out this place as some "death cult", it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that many of us could be identified, one way or another.
I will probably eventually change my username and also request edits of some comments (from the mods) for anything I've said that is just a tad too personal and easy to string together to form a possible profile that could identify me to those who know me.
(Though I doubt anyone that "close" to me would give enough of a shit to go digging, it's actually more likely that a pos or two who have no business in my life may find out and get curious.)

The term lurking sounds sinister to me, but the truth is most of here were lurkers in life. Quiet, reserved, never liking attention, in the back of the pack, always observing our surroundings and trying to keep to ourselves. And then you have the bully, life itself.

Information or data is one of the most valuable resources, both financially and strategically. In commercial terms, it let's you know what people want and what they don't, this can be used to manufacture products or to know where to invest. Strategically, knowing all details of the life of your enemy basically means you automatically win any battle.

With time, this kind of data disadvantage, where you know everything about your enemy but he only knows what you let him know means that you can even get your enemy so deluded that they think you work for them while you work to destroy them. This is exactly what the higher echelons of society are doing with everyone else.

This. I've lurked here for a few weeks. Then once I figured out how I want to ctb, I created an account so I could verify emails of a source.

And when I ctb - I guess my account will just age out without having contributed much of anything to the communit.

Shallow and selfish I know. I'm sorry.

The harvested metadata can be sold and combed through for extractable values that can be quantified.

Damn, that's crazy. Sometimes the "similar threads" section under the current posts I read brings up some old stuff. I'll have to remember to check the date on those.

I was a lurker for a while after hearing about this place from reddit. I came in pretty unbiased but wanting to find a place like this that doesn't treat wanting to CTB in such an immature manner. I found this place very comforting and really helpful and aligning w my views. To those who are lurking, hello! And to those who wish to take this site down, please reconsider. Getting rid of a site like this won't prevent suicide, but lead to more methods being used that are ineffective and lead to a physically painful life. We all came here for a reason and please respect it
