I love lucid dreaming, its a great escape from the world around me. I've met a few dream characters, and I'd like to consider them 'friends.' Does anyone have a consistant way to trigger a lucid dream? Does anyone have any interesting stories from their lucid dreams?

I only did it once as a child and that was when I had the same dream over and over and over again and at one point I realized it was only a dream and I became so tired of it, I just forced myself out of the sleep. So I basically used my awareness of being in a dream to escape it.

I was in a sort of bookstore and someone tried to start a conversation with me. I saw that his face kept shapeshifting so i realized it was a dream. After that i explored my surroundings and realized i could float and phase through objects. And i guess i was invisible too because the people i phased through weren't aware i was there.

My husband does it. It sounds pretty cool, but the kinds of dreams he has always seem to be violent. He's yelled my name out a few times in the middle of the night, just so I could wake him. Scares the shit out of me.

Here's a link to a site with loads of info. They also sell lucid dreaming vitamins (shrug).

I used to control my dreams never realised there was a proper name for it, thought I was normal till I was informed its not. Now though I rarely sleep and when I do its next day before I know it with nightmares inbetween, No idea why I can't do it anymore, I am gutted

For me, lucid dreams are just like real life - nothing really goes right. I often get what I want in a lucid dream, it's just that stuff manages to go wrong in the parts left unspecified. It's like wishing on the monkey's paw.

I often say to myself how wonderful it would be to converse with my dream characters. But when I actually get lucid, I perform tumbles and hit on women, or make them fight each other for my amusement. I tried to record my lucid dream in while lucid dreaming, lol. I've had the conversation with the dark figure in the dark place, probably for the first time in my life... I usually either flee in terror, or go full onslaught. Damn, its feels so wonderful to dream!

I'm not sure if this is a lucid dream as such, but maybe more of a (slightly crap) astral projection experience- I once floated outside of my body and was laying next to myself in bed- I could see my shoulders and my ponytail. It was creepy and I shocked myself and think it ended up waking me up... maybe this was the beginning of being able to float up and astral travel but I wasn't ready?
Another time when I was really young, say 7 or 8, I had sleep paralysis, which I still get now on rare occasion (horrid and wouldn't wish on anyone- but I digress) and ended up sort of floating outside of myself and was so high up that the tip of my nose was practically touching my bedroom ceiling. I vividly remember this.

I don't have a consistent trigger, I just kinda do it. I've used an app in the past to strengthen them called Awoken, and they give you exercises to do throughout the day, as well as create a trigger sound for you when you realize you're in a dream. It does help solidify lucidity, but I'm not really a habit-maker so it's an on-off activity for me.

I dream about me and a friend's characters a lot. Last night was about going junk food hunting at a mom n pop store during the honeymoon phase of a zombie apocalypse--one where people are still blissfully unaware that there's zombies shambling about--I was grabbing smores oreos and a jar of milk to go with it. I was short on change and a guy gave me $0.21.

I can lucid dream after my brain injury. In some periods it's a really great escape, I feel like my life is flipped and I'm actually living when I'm sleeping. There's always something not quite right though, it never feels as genuine as real life.

I've done it a few times, but it's always short lived because I get over excited and wake up.

I've done it and loved it, I really want to do it more often. Some time ago I bought a book about it ("Lucid Dreaming for Beginners").

I am conscious that i'm dreaming in about 80+ % of my dreams... or almost 100%....I can always induce myself to wake up if things ever get too crazy.

I think in about 50% of my dreams I actively change things. I don't know about other people but it requires lots of mental energy to change things in my dreams. More difficult than inducing myself to wake up. I will be sleeping but that requires my brain to be somewhat awake and not fully awake. I would imagine something "really hard" and assume that as a reality in that dream. Then my dream continues with the modifications I actively inserted in. Usually I do it to be with an attractive guy. Or to run away from frightening situations, like I make myself incredibly fast, make myself fly, or just make the monster(or whatever) unintimidating.
