(one of my storytime poems, and she does die.)
Lovely Lone Lost Girl,
Going into town one day
Wishes in tow, mind gone astray
Secrets held close, protectively so
And more mystery held within
Than the world could ever know.
"Hello."
"Hi there."
Wishing things would come true
"How are you?"
"I'm alright."
But they so often won't do
And so she walks away empty
Even though she knew
She'd be better of dead
"I'm okay."
Her heart full of rue.
"Take these wishes of mine,
That fill my heart with disarray,
Take them far away in your branches,
So my suffering may remain full,
As are the leaves of the branches
Of a forest's proudest tree,
So are the rest of my days.
For they are as numbered as I am lonely,
And though my heart may earnestly plea,
I am tainted and unworthy,
Such is the curse deep inside me."

Friendless but hardly pitiless,
But led so far astray
That someone could find her,
Even in the pits of her despair
Holding out a caring hand,
So that she may know someone cares.
"Hi there."
"Hello."
Can't things come true?
"How are you?"
"I'm alright."
Just like wishes do.
"I'm glad you're alive,
And alive here with me.
I'm glad that you're still here,
Where I hope you'll always be."
