Hi,

I need some help. How can I calculate the drop energy on the rope?

My weight: 105 Kg (230pounds)
Drop height: about 2,5 to 3 m (8,2 - 9,8 feet)

Is it 1 J = 1 N·1m ?

so... 105kg * 9,81m/s * 3m = 3090 Nm (J) ???

My Rope consists of hemp and has a diameter of 22mm.
Breaking load = 3240 daN

Will it break or not?

Basic physics

2,5 meter fall with 105 kg weight
735 kilogram ("drop energy on the rope")

3 meter fall with 105 kg weight
806 kilogram ("drop energy on the rope")

I recommend use hemp rope with large safety marginal.

with that weight 5ft should be enough

but a few extra ft cant be harmful

better decapitated than hanging fully conciousness there for a few minutes

what about a steelrope or a pianowire?

I would have to drop 8 feet. Where the heck would I find somewhere to drop 8 feet?

energy in kg???

Clarification
My answer is in kilogram! Use hemp rope with "break load" above 806 kilogram (plus large safety marginal).

break load
(information about break load is provided for almost all ropes. break load is an important property if you use rope for sailing or whatever so just ask the shop if not provided)

in the big hanging thread they also mention the possibility to use a car for hanging

people can be very creative when it comes to ctb

sooo...
break load

see 1st post.
break load = 3240 daN
equals kg, right?

so safety margin should be
3240 Kg / 806 Kg = 4

How did you calculate the 806 kg with a free fall of 3m and a weight of 105?
can you please write it down?

...I've tried partial but can't push past the few seconds it takes to pass out.....yes there is a lot of creative ways....I was thinking long drop may be easier, but I don't think so....

Yeah, I read an article about a guy who decapitated himself using a car. And I've read that thread quite a bit, I think it came up there.
