Aren´t we millions? Millions who suffer from depression, anxiety, autoimmune diseases, encounters with sociopaths/sadists/vicious narcicists, trauma, or psychosomatic illness? Alone, we are powerless. Together, we could move mountains. Together, we could force the passing of new laws. Together, we could force the health care system to change (adopt complementary medicine as standard treatment, for example). Toegether, we could destroy what is destroying us.

Let´s not ctb. Let´s get mad. Let´s get even.

That's what the fuck I keep saying. Or, the willingness-to-risk that comes with the decision to suicide - it's fucking gold, I don't want to waste that on some quiet exit, like imagine how much upheaval that gives you the absolute fucking FREEDOM to enact. Aren't we by and large suicidal because someone has been soul-murdering us? If you're willing to take such a final step, use it to destroy what destroys you.

The health care system changing wouldn't fix me. Anything modern medicine can do would only make things worse or do nothing for me. I imagine some people here also can't be fixed by perfect health care. Maybe there's something else we could do but I have no idea what....

But, what can the health system do? Even if, one day, there is some sort of technology that can rewire your brain, and make you feel happy forever, is it even worth it since it's basically not you anymore? I'm so lost......

As long as the things are the way they are right now, I don't really see any great solution and I don't think that if we all move to one building, somewhere in EU, I don't see any great visions since some of us are depressed and suicidal but don't actually get along with other people, who are feeling the same.
Trust me, I have certain individuals, who couldn't really talk with other people or talk with each other about anything, let's say "Forum Related".

Kinda sad tbh but what can you do. We are humans...

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job, the dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter, punks are running wild in the streets, and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do and there's no end to it. We know the air's unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat and we sit and watch our teevees while some local newscaster tells us today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We all know things are bad. Worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything's going crazy. So we don't go out any more. We sit in the house and slowly the world we live in gets smaller and all we ask is, please, at least leave us alone in our own living rooms. Let me have my toaster and TV and my hairdryer and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything, just leave us alone. Well, I'm not going to leave you alone. I want you to get mad. (He gets up from his desk and walks to the front of the set.)

I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot. I don't want you to write to your congressmen. Because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the defense budget and the Russians and crime in the street. All I know is, first you've got to get mad. You've got to say: 'I'm a human being, goddammit. My life has value.' So I want you to get up right now. I want you to get out of your chairs and go to the window. Right now. I want you to go to the window, open it and stick your head out and yell. I want you to yell, 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more.'

Get up from your chairs. Go to the window. Open it. Stick out your head and yell. And keep yelling. First you've got to get mad. When you're mad enough we'll figure out what to do. Stick your head out and yell, 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.' 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.' 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.'

That's it. I've had it with the foreclosures and the oil crisis and the unemployment and the corruption of finance and the inertia of politics and the right to be alive and the right to be angry. I want to hear the little man and woman — I want to hear you now — go to your windows — yell out so they can hear you — yell and don't stop yelling — so the whole world can hear you — above the chaos and degradation the apathy and white noise.

They're yelling in Chicago. Yell, yell, and then we'll work out what to do about terrorism and the oil crisis. Stick your head out of the window and shout it with me: 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more. I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take this any more. I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE."

This is quite interesting.
If we join forces we might get actual results.

However, this reminds me of atheism. Why? Because I've remembered that there will probably never be a "self-admitted" atheist president, for example. People want somebody who believes in a God to be a president because if they don't, they are probably the devil and their country will be punished by the heavens, as Richard Dawkins once suggested lol.

Now, let's talk about suicide. Could a person who supports assited suicide get a high rank in politics? I bet it's not 100% impossible but it's certainly very difficult.

That's the problem. The majority always ignore the minority but hey, things, fortunately, can sometimes change. Women and men are under equal conditions now! Perhaps, there will be a day on which suicide stops being a taboo and we can actually embrace death.

Whatever you do, you can count on me. I will always support people like US.

That's funny, these problems never stopped and it created more problems, and people still decided to have fucking kids in this world. This movie came out in the 70's when most of our parents were kids, and they knew how horrible the world is just from these small first world problems, and they still had fucking kids! Obviously this speech is outdated and out of touch, there are worst things now to worry about and basically everything in that speech has become normal life. I will never forgive parents for choosing to have children, my parents too, but ALL parents who willingly consensually made the choice to procreate. I'm anti-parent.

I am useless in this world. When I was younger i dreamed to be politician. I am still voting and i am politicially engaged but I think there is not much we could do to be honest. I always support assisted suicide. That is maybe one goal we could try to fight for. But you don't want to ctb.
The health care system in my country is quite good. I rather need higher welfare and more social security.
This might does not sound optimistic. But we are in an international forum. Many people here are seriously ill. And they don't have the power to engage in stuff like that.

With all due respect, each individual's reason for ctb is very unique. Each of us suffer various existentialist issues that are not going to be fixed by getting involved by activism. That said, I have to say that it's a bit arrogant to make such an assumption, then essentially exploit those suffering, with the indirect assertion that getting involved with said activism is going to solve all of one's ills.

I'm apolitical, but as you stated that you are an 'old leftie' so I know you are not going to like to hear this, (and I speak of the USA) but there are others that feel that it is the left that is responsible for the current horrible world of which we find ourselves in—and that the left are themselves the new nazis.

I totally love your idea about becoming the next great civil rights movement!

I will always support any person`s right to chose, my own and that of others. To go from this world to the next peacefully, painlessly, surrounded by people they love (and maybe with a glass of champagne and a view of the Mediterranean before their eyes). That is a fundamental human right.

But I believe in a better world, fewer people would feel the need to do so.
That's what the fuck I keep saying. I love what you´re saying. Yes, we are by and large suicidal because someone - a person or a social system - has been soul-murdering us. Let`s not go quietly into that good night. Let`s set the world on fire and bring the whole sick, soul-crushing, toxic edifice down.

I'm in.
What are we actually going to do then?
Let`s discuss that. What I broadly have in mind: a global patients rights organization (not a party!). Unite everyone: the right to self-deliverance movement, disability, psychological illnesses, antipsychiatry, autoimmune diseases, psychosomatic illnesses. An organization for everyone and anyone, including all grievances and injustices. One organization to unite us all.

Apparently, the UK has a pretty successful history of patient rights movements, and many of their demands were incorporated into the NHS. We could start by taking a closer look at that.

But I am more than open to suggestions!
Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. (George Bernard Shaw)

I am not saying organizing is the magic pill to cure all ills, and the answer to every question. But is can be the answer to many problems. And yes, I am a leftist, openly and unpologetically. But I am more than willing to fight alongside every conservative, liberal or of other conviction for better patient rights, including the right to peaceful self-deliverance.

But let me say two things about leftism:

First, let`s clarify what I mean by leftist. Barack Obama is not a leftist. Hillary Clinton is not a leftist. Bill Clinton never was a leftist. Most of the Democratic party is not left-wing. They are neoliberals. They are beholden to Wall Street, the corporations, the 1%. Bernie Sanders is a leftist. A left-wing social democrat, like Clement Attlee in the UK, Olof Palme in Sweden, or Willy Brandt in Germany. You could also call him a Rooseveltian democrat.

Second, I think you grossly overestimate how much power the US left has – which, in fact, is very, very little.
Is the left responsible for the demise of the American middle class?
Is the left responsible for turning the US´s industrial heartland into the rust belt?
Is the left behind the fact that three individuals own as much wealth the other half the US`s population?
Did the left engineer the worst health care system in the industralized world – overpriced, low-quality, entirely profit-driven?
Is the left responsible for American citizens having to organize "go fund me" campaigns to pay for their insulin?
Is the left responsible for the US opiod crisis?
