  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

I have applied my ass off recently and have recently felt demotivated by it all, around 50 applications, not one singular call back... until today! I received an email that a company I applied to (part time QA Tester Internship, relevant to my CS major). It's aerospace, which is sort of a dream industry for me to work in. I've always wanted NASA but would settle for any Aerospace company, and while this is more consulting, I'm still happy!

I'm nervous and I do have absolutely ZERO experience QA Testing, so I don't think I'll get it but I miss 100% of the shots I don't take, so I plan on doing this interview and seeing where it goes. I also will say, I hate the idea of having less free time tbh, I don't know the hour requirements and I already spend quite a bit of time in class and doing assignments, and I really enjoy my downtime, and I hate the idea of giving that away. I am trying to swallow that mighty pill of what I lose, because it pays quite well for my area. Not super great, but $1/hr more than most fast food places around me, BUT it's way more relevant to my major and might benefit, especially if they offer me a full-time job after college, which judging from their LinkedIn isn't unlikely if I get an offer. Again, I doubt I'll get it but I wanted to share because I felt like I was drowning at 50 applications, not one callback. This has reinvigorated home in me. It helps that it's also in my town I'm living in now, which means I don't have to temporarily move during the summer.

Anyways, thanks for allowing me to share and reading if you read all that!

That's awesome! You're right, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. They want to talk to you or they wouldn't have asked for an interview, remember that.

They scheduled the interview, now all I gotta do is prep before the day comes. It's this week, and I feel a lot of pressure between this and upcoming midterms. I'm probably not going to practice too much, but I want to be knowledgeable about their company. I know the year they were founded, the fact that they have SBIR contracts, good relations with the department of defense and branches of the military, who I'll be interviewing with (no one technical, from my understanding. The president of the company though, which is quite intimidating, possibly more so than someone technical), and a bit more. Not some crazy update, but I'm both glad and scared.

I know, in the back of my mind, this is good no matter the outcome. It means my resume is okay, and worst case scenario, I don't get the job but now I have experience interviewing for a more technical role than fast food or labor (all of my previous jobs). Best case, I get the job and possibly open some doors in the future, maybe even have a full time position lined up after college. It's still hard to shake that fear that if I don't get the job, everything is ruined, even if that isn't true and I know it isn't.

How did it go?

I'm in a similar predicament on probation at a new job. But after being jobless for months I have very low confidence in my ability to make it. I'm battling hard to beat my depressive lethargy.

I honestly have no clue if it went well or not tbh. They were very neutral throughout the whole thing, which made them hard to read. They did say that they would get back to me eventually with a decision, but didn't really give me a window. I'm not super hopeful that I did well enough to get it, but the interview had some fairly technical questions, which I suppose is to be expected. I feel as though I prepped really well though. Practiced an elevator pitch for the inevitable, "Tell me about yourself," and delivered that with confidence. I also had some notes on the company just off screen, as well as a list of questions which I asked at the end of the interview. A big thing that helped is I had my resume on the side so I can adequately explain whatever's on there.

Anyways, I plan on following up if I haven't heard back by mid-next week, which will be one week after my interview, which I feel is an acceptable waiting period considering they never gave me a window.

I wish you the best in your new job! Just try to remember, they chose you for a reason.

They picked me for my stellar past, which I can only dream of distantly now. How was I ever that person? They got no clue I'm so unfit. 😢

Godspeed. I think any prolonged break from work rewires the brain somehow. If we can force ourselves to relearn to 'work hard' we should be okay. I have failed at a couple of previous retries so really crossing my fingers. (Very heavy sigh)
