I haven't tried it, but a friend did. Really helped her depression.

I have heard great things about the treatment. I know it's pretty great recreationally.

I really, really want to try ketamine infusions, but since it's not covered by insurance and I can't afford it, I'll never get the chance. I feel like it might save my life, too.

Yes. It's a game changer. Years ago took small dosages once a month and it really changed me, with zero side effects.

Physical discomfort disappeared without diminishing sensations. Mild calmness and slight elevation but nothing serious. Unlike medications feelings were there but I just felt ok with it. Kinda made me 'easy-going'. But not numb, high, drunk, slow, lathargic, etc. Fully awake & functioning. Less preoccupied. Clear mind. Felt as light as a feather. Afterwards that state of mind sticks for few weeks. No memory or motor skills issues.

Considering most medications' mixed efficacy and serious side-effects, ketamine should have been considered as one of the first-line treatments for depression or anxiety. Also has an excellent safety profile (common for conscious sedation in pediatrics).

Totally a good idea.

Two things people are researching right now for depression with some exciting results are ketamine and magic mushrooms. This represents a major shift in how we perceive these naughty illegal drugs.

I've been looking into getting some psilocybin myself. Maybe I should give ket a shot too. It's funny how some of the more dangerous recreational drugs (alcohol and tobacco) are the most freely available. Nice profile pic by the way. \m/

I second virtually everything in the above post. It can work wonders and if you use it responsibly (and source it well) it can really, really help with depression and other issues.

From what I've read it's possible to just snort it, no need for a doctor to administer it although that would be preferable for safety's sake. I'm not telling you to do drugs but I'm sure it can be procured a whole lot cheaper than as an expensive medical treatment. Just be careful about dosage, purity etcetera. Don't overdo it as ending up with an addiction will probably not improve your quality of life.

Yes nowadays I think it is possible to get it from the dark web and snort it. Better try that than killing yourself. I agree with Jean and suggest not taking it too often otherwise you have another unhealthy addiction instead of a medicine. I think ketamine/ shrooms can be seen as medicines for certain people in a certain stage of their life.

Ketamine and magic mushrooms allow the brain to rewire itself so you can perceive the world differently. The problems with mental conditions like depression, you get stuck in a habit of thinking which can be hard to get out of.

Maybe after taking it you view the world slightly differently, and start doing things better for your state of mind like meditation or walking in nature or not thinking about killing yourself. Or maybe your CBT starts working better and you go out and get a job or meet some one interesting, or something.

I've only ever taken moderate, recreational doses (enough to affect co-ordination but not to 'k-hole' ie sedate). Hate it. All the worst parts of being drunk with none of the good. No hangover at least.

Lower, therapeutic doses might be quite different.

I did consider this, but it's not really something I think I can do on my own. I can barely be trusted give myself the meds I'm prescribed, you know? Plus, I'm kind of terrified of pretty much everything these days. Just the thought of figuring out how to even find a source overwhelmed me. :(

We used very low dosage. Lower than current infusion treatment. (hallucinations or numbness could make me panic)

In hindsight no supervision needed but it was new and I was anxious. Effects I read about worried me, hence low dosage. I'd be hesitant to take it and stare at the wall or do anything demanding. More suitable with a mellow interaction or something light around.

Just be careful about dosage, purity etcetera. Don't overdo it as ending up with an addiction will probably not improve your quality of life.
Just to note that ketamine's addiction profile is remarkably low (uncontrolled use may cause some tolerance). Patients are fine even after reported "bliss". But indeed, people should be mindful of low dosage & frequency. Self-administration not suitable for all.

I can barely be trusted give myself the meds I'm prescribed, you know? Plus, I'm kind of terrified of pretty much everything these days
Same situation here :) I think administration itself is not complicated, a simple one-time planned preperation. Wouldn't be a problem for me. However..

the thought of figuring out how to even find a source overwhelmed me

Exactly, thought made me sooo exhausted. (can barely fill forms for my healthcare)

Yeah it's not especially addictive, neither is it something you can easily OD on, so it's pretty safe. I still think trying something more alternative/ a promising new treatment like this is better than CTB.

I snorted it once, well 3x on same day. I didn't find the K Hole. I haven't taken it again - tried it before last summer. It's definitely worth trying though.
I mean I don't know if it helped me and I didn't love it, but it is worth trying. Snorting really easy.

right i've experimented with ket three times before- The "high" itself isn't very enjoyable personally except the k hole which is great. It's after effects are amazing though and its a great tool to prevent suicidal feelings. If you're going to do it more than once i'd say do it quarterly throughout the year to maximise its effectiveness. MDMA is also a great tool for improving general mood for a few months after use, however some people get extremely depressed about 3 days or so after usage however I personally don't.
Also you can do it alone or in groups, its not like LSD where i'd highly recommend doing it with a friend

stop with this mushroom bullshit.
It isn't BS. It works. I've done mushrooms before and it changed my perspective and helped my depression.

Paradigms can really box you in.

Tried it once recreationally. Felt really loopy and had almost a 'drunk' feeling, albeit different. Pretty hard to describe, but I've always wanted to try the ketamine infusion treatments in lower doses to begin with in order to help with my suicidal ideation and depression. Definitely want to try k-holing too.

stop with this mushroom bullshit.

This sounds like another case of mycophobia to me, which is, the irrational fear of mushrooms.

We now even have considerable scientific evidence to support the mushrooms, for example:

Griffiths, Roland R., et al. "Psilocybin produces substantial and sustained decreases in depression and anxiety in patients with life-threatening cancer: A randomized double-blind trial." Journal of psychopharmacology 30.12 (2016): 1181-1197.
