The nearest bridge to me is 70 meters tall (230 feet) and is above a river. I read the jumping megathread but I still have some doubts. Would jumping from this height onto the water be enough to kill me? And if it doesn't, how long would it take for me to drown?

This is virtually my only choice as there aren't many tall bridges near me and I don't have a car plus i'm broke af so can't travel too far

I would say that your choice is decent. Compare it to the golden gate bridge which is very popular for ctb. The golden gate bridge is 75m tall and only 34 out of roughly 1600 attempts have failed. And the 34 survivers most probably had bad technique, impact at a wrong angle and so on.

Only 5% survive the impact and drown afterwards.

the recommended height is 250 ft for water. even at that height there is still a very small survival chance. important not to land with your feet.

also make sure you have the correct measurements, 230 is very high. the golden gate bridge is that height.

I actually misread it and it's 58 meters (190 feet). Is this a lethal jump?

There is no height that will 100% garantee a death. The higher the better. Jumping from 58m is still very lethal, around 95% I would say. Maybe this can help you out:

This is going to be my method of choice, jumping from a 70m bridge into water

Main causes of death

in short:
  • I will most probably not die upon impact
  • My ribcage and many other bones will be destroyed/broken
  • My internal organs will be ripped apart due to inertia from the deceleration
  • i will either die by drowning or internal bleeding
  • Death will come in a matter of seconds or some minutes
  • from 75m and above te fatality rate is 98%

The Humber Bridge is at the top of my Road and is only 30m / 98 feet from bottom of road deck to water, a bit more with the thickness of the deck and standing on the railings of course , since it was opened 200 people have jumped and only 5 have survived

Do you think you register the pain on impact?

Depends. Some people have heart attacks and black out before hitting the ground. Some are still alive after the impact and howl in pain, I knew a case like this. For me something in my back snapped and I went numb, it was only when I woke up in the hospital when I truly felt pain. Probably a mix of adrenaline and falling into water not ground
