Is it worth the risk that somebody will tackle you before you can jump, and you'll end up involuntarily committed?

So many factors here....

Not enough data to transmit an opinion.

I know a guy who jumped off of the top of a parking garage. He was pretty out of it when it happened. I wasn't there but I imagine he didn't dilly-dally with jumping off.

I think if one was quick and confident with their action to jump bystanders wouldn't have time to process what is about to happen and wouldn't intervene.

Parking garages have less people than rooftop bars. Plus people are constantly looking around in rooftop bars, and trying to enjoy the scenery.

It can take a little time (probably a minimum of 5 seconds) to get both of your legs over a guardrail. Even if you don't "dilly-daily", people can catch you before you jump.

What's the draw to a bar as opposed to a relatively less populated balcony or parking garage?

It's a rooftop bar— people will be everywhere. Everywhere. Probably to the right and left of you the entire time. If they don't mass tackle you when you approach the edge, they'll all be traumatized when they look down.

Parking garages are rarely high enough to particularly safe suicide bets. Even the highest garages probably are at just above the 50% success threshold.

As for balconies? You have to pay to get a hotel room, and it's no guarantee they'd give you a high room when you check into the hotel. I suspect the front desk might get suspicious of a local resident who's asking for a room on a high floor, although I can't say for sure. The last thing I want is to spend $250, and not be allowed a room above the third floor.

That was a main factor I was referring to earlier,....I suppose any keen jumper would arrive early, before it starts getting packed in.

The tallest rooftop bar I've found in my area is over 20 stories high. (I'm not going to give the exact height because I don't want people to figure out the place I'm talking about.)

Unfortunately, all 4 sides of the bar are surrounded by plants. That means I'd have to walk across plants before getting to the edge, which will attract a lot of attention.

At most rooftop bars, you can spend a few minutes by the edge pretending to be enjoying the view, and then jump when you don't think anybody's looking in your direction. However, that's not the case at this bar.

If one was going to jump from a rooftop bar, they'd need to scope the scene out and act swiftly, when/while people are distracted ie drinking, socializing, etc.

Again, the move would need to be swift. As others have mentioned, "dilly dallying" would almost inevitably end up with someone taking notice and either notifying security or tackling you straight up. I do find that the average person would likely not intervene, but there's always the chance. If it were me at a rooftop bar and I saw the opportunity, I'd slide myself over and be quick about it.

This reminds me of my first attempt, which happened in NYC. I was at a rooftop bar with friends and I was thinking, I have to get out of here. I briefly considered jumping but instead managed to swipe a corkscrew/knife combo from the bar and exited the premises while a friend was in the bathroom. I made my way to a parking lot in midtown, settled myself under a truck that was parked for the long holiday weekend, stabbed myself and took a massive overdose (I had been drinking, so was intoxicated when I made this attempt). I wasn't found for over a day, and the NYPD were looking for me (my husband at the time had notified them I was missing and would possibly harm myself). When they pulled me out from under the truck, I was just coming to. Ended up in Bellevue Hospital for about 3-4 days and yeah, it sucked.

A guy I went to High School with ended up jumping from the top level of a car park. He succeeded. He came from a big family and I remember on the day of his funeral, one of his sisters posted a picture of the sky; a giant rainbow stretched out over the cemetery that morning. I imagine and/or like to believe he is at peace.

As others have said no dilly dallying you could wear a high vis jacket and a hard hat people tend to not look to closely because they assume you're there doing a job or whatever but how far up is it? That's important it's the difference between success and vegetable/serious injury.

As I already mentioned, the highest bar I've found is more than 20 stories high. I'm not going to say the exact number of stories because I don't want to make it obvious what bar I'm referring to. You never know who could be reading this website.

Jumping from this bar, death should be over 99% certain. That is, if I can seriously jump off the bar. The problem is that the entire perimeter of the bar is covered by plants. I'd have to run over about 100 feet of plants in order to jump, and it'll be impossible not to gain attention.

Are they real plants? If so, someone must take care of them every once in a while. I might dress for that role and hope for luck.

Alternatively I'd look around for a more realistic way out than via this bar.

High vis vest you would be amazed how much you can get away with if you're looking like you're doing something when your dressed up like that lol but there are more practical methods
