Pretty much the title, hope you don't mind my asking. I have been researching jumping/falling from height overnight pretty much… the one thing I half 'like' is that it could look accidental which may be so much easier on family. When researching, I see all sorts of information of people dying pretty instantly, or slightly later in hospital, if the fall was from high enough/impact was hard ground or water with nothing to 'cushion' it. But, on here I see overwhelming against jumping as it isn't'fool proof' enough. Just wondering exactly why? Sorry if questions already been answered, just trying to understand

Statistically, what's the chance that you survive with severe injuries like broken spine? I dont know, but i would estimate that it is over 1% even if you have access to a very high height. Correct me if im wrong. It depends on you whether those are acceptable odds for you. For me it isnt. By hanging/shooting/overdosing in an isolated forest i think i can get a much lower chance of being in such a scenario that i am found with horrible injuries

Thanks for your response. I understand this completely, I too would want it to be absolutely the end. Is this the main concern, do you feel - the statistics? Thanks again

For me yeah that's what dominates my decision. I am terrified of surviving and being unable to 'finish the job'. Other people must have other considerations

For me, I don't want to take the risk of being left with severe injuries, plus I have a fear of heights feel like the SI would be hard to overcome

As alienfreak says, there's a real chance of surviving with life changing injuries / paralysis etc, even when falling from a great height. I remember the website 'lostallhope' had suicide success stats, back in the day, and I remember the stats for jumping not being as good as I'd imagined they would be.

There's also the survival instinct element - if the SI makes you hesitate, there's a risk someone might see you and get police/psychiatry involved. Or even if you don't hesitate but somebody manages to rush to you and stop you.

Thanks for your honest response here I really appreciate it. I have everything planned for SN, my one struggle is, my family will know I chose it. Otherwise, I'd have done it weeks ago. It's that and what if family or my partner found me like that. I know in public is even worse but, if I did it somewhere relatively quiet, and the jump did work, it could even look unintended maybe. Idk. Trying to find a for sure way to go whilst hurting people as minimally as possible is so hard.

My personal philosophy is that just because we might want to end our suffering doesn't mean we have the right to inflict it on someone else. Someone has to find your body. Put yourself in the place of the family member or first responder. A DB is one thing, a DB that's splattered all over the pavement is something else.

True. Obviously would have to ensure that couldn't happen, which may be really tricky. I appreciate your response, thank you

Yeah… that would be traumatising. Thank you
