I know it sounds bad, but it's true. I read in the news about a 13 year old who hanged herself, and a 14 year old that jumped. I envy them. Is there less of a survival instinct when you're that young?

I had my first attempt at 13 (and first known attempt to my family at 14). There is a survival instinct at that age. That's why my family knew about my second attempt, I freaked out and told them.

I, too, envy people who succeed at that age. I often think of all the suffering that would've been avoided if I had just ctb back then. (Not just for me, but for my family, too).

But people are also more impulsive at that age. If I had access to a gun or a tall enough bridge at that age, I think I would've ctb.

You're not the only one who thinks like that. At this point the only thing clear to me is to "Just do it". Don't think, just go trough the motions.

Yes . They seem to be the lucky ones. But don't know what the parents are going through though. I think it's a shame but it's there decision. At least they don't have to go through the stress of adulthood now.

Depends on the life they had. Ctb should be done as soon as hopeless suffering starts. Generally I'm very envious of any suicide reports so long as they're relatively peaceful.

They're certainly lucky, as most attempts fail. I do think it's possible that they succeeded since children can act more on impulse, rather that thinking about the consequences etc.

Ironically enough 13 year old me would break down and cry if I got something that would kill me within months such as a disease and tell you how pure life is when in reality it's just blind denial.

Nowadays I wish I had something that would kill me within a few months and I could rant about Earth all night long.

And I doubt most of these kids do any kind of research before their successful attempt.....then there's people like us who research and obsess over the details of every method but still can't get it right

Your mind resists anything lethal, this can be overcome by repetition etc. It's just a function of your mind, its doesn't make you cowardly or stupid.

Diseases that kill that first - days - are painful. Like ebola.

Or sedatives. I must have them handy for the next hanging. The coward I am :(

So, @Logic, you're the only suicidal pro-lifer I've known.

If you lean in right it will only take a few seconds, almost faster than falling asleep. Pro-lifer? Pro life in regards to what? I am definitely pro-choice besides extreme situations like if someone wants to kill themselves as a result of hallucination I believe they should be stopped.

Some people would just do it, no hesitation, im going to this, it's done. No saying anything to anyone no second thoughts. It's an incredibly gutsy thing to do.

Me? Well, I hesitated I researched for ages, I held off then I tried..and failed.

I don't believe this - that most successes are spontaneous. Suicidal people contemplate and research their options in secret for ages. Society is rabidly anti-suicide and any attempts are illegal and reputation-destroying. So we conclude they did it instantly without hesitation or planning. I doubt it.

If you consider the recent suicide of Manhattan nutritionist Tara Condell. She was apparently a happy-go-lucky, and without the note that states she was depressed and suicidal for a decade, she's another spontaneous, no? Who's to say this was even her first attempt?

I can see what you're saying. Good post. But sometimes I do feel that those that "get it right the first time" as the thread title says, just get on with it. It's time to go, lets do this.

Me? Well, I hesitated I researched for ages, I held off then I tried..and failed.

So yesterday I had my lethal cocktail ready. I put my rope around my neck(Not that I need a rope, the certainly of success is as close to 100% as you can reasonably be without it) I get a call from a friend of mine saying she thinks her boyfriend is trying to break into her house, she asks me what I am doing, I said "I am just hanging out" (because the rope was around my neck) She begs me to come over. I am annoyed but I go over there, it turns out she is high and just paranoid. I calm her down-leave and get a few more phone calls-from different people, other unrelated issues and get back much later. I sigh, and think guess I have to wait until tomorrow. The entire thing was extremely annoying.

I always feel envy when I read or hear about a successful suicide, I just feel like "all their pain and suffering is gone, I want that"
