  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Are there any native Japanese living in their country now on this forum? If so, can you tell us about how you live, what you like and what you sincerely hate in this life? In general, tell me everything you would like to tell, or I can ask leading questions.
And also (off topic). I'm planning a trip to Japan, but not to Tokyo or similar big cities, but somewhere in the provinces, to really see the life of people and maybe get to know them. Is that a good idea?

I'm not Japanese but I find researching their culture interesting so I know some things (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):
- They're really picky about how kimonos are worn. The sash has to be facing a certain way of a certain tightness and the pattern has to match the seasons
- Cover up tattoos as they're associated with the Yakuza (big Japanese gang, like the Mafia)
- Japan is like what the 80s thought the future would be like so there's high tech robot cafes next to offices with fax machines. Out of the cities and it's very much like the 80s, not just in objects but in attitudes.
- The Japanese have a very strong work culture. So strong that it's causing a population crash due to people not socialsing and dating due to working so I heard they're making PSAs on encouraging people to get married and start families.
- Also they have a problem with office people committing suicide due to overwork
- They have a different attitude to sexuality than the west. They also have love hotels which is handy because their house walls are paper thin.
- Their food is very healthy (apart from spicy instant noodles) which is why they live so long
- If you are a foreigner then they will judge you silently. They're an introverted lot that keep to themselves so they're less likely to go up to your face and yell racist stuff at you like in America, but they will very much judge you because almost all of their population is Japanese
- They eat KFC on Christmas because why not
- Their culture is all about fitting in and doing your part
- A Japanese person dying their hair brown is a sign of rebellion and are perceived as more fun and outgoing and not as good as working (the darker the better when it comes to hair over there)
- Almost everyone is buddhist or shintoism (the Japanese religion, pretty neat actually, it's all about natural spirits)
- They see the west as just America (specifically Texas) and think it's neat which is why they've adapted so many things from the west
- The trains are very cramped in the cities and have separate carriages for women due to sexual harrasment
- Their media is more focused on "cute" rather than "cool" (like in America). The way Pokemon is advertised is the clearest example

Thanks) Despite the fact that I also study their culture, your post gave me more new information. Thanks)
