My best friend was my soul mate; my best friend was my everything. He was always there for me. 24/7/365 he was there to listen to me if I needed to vent or scream into the void. He had a special alarm on his phone that would wake him up if I called/texted him during the night and needed help.
He died in his sleep in 2012, he was only 25 years old. It was a brain aneurysm, he went instantly and never suffered, never woke up. I wish it had been me, for many reasons. It's the ideal way to go out of this world--no pain, no awareness, just gone. I feel he would have been stronger and dealt with it better if I had died instead. He had family, friends, a job. He had potential.
On a bit of a tangent, brain aneurysms seem to find their way into my life... Several years before my best friend died, my mother had a brain aneurysm. I found her screaming on the bathroom floor and called 911. She had to be airlifted to another city for surgery and was in the ICU for two months after that. Then she was in outpatient care and at-home IV medication for several more months. I was still in high school at the time and ended up having to live with a friend while Mom was in the hospital.
