Everybody's said great things on this thread. Often people say they join it because of the methods, but stay because of the community. I see the site as a suffering-reduction site, both in regards to reducing the pain through suicide and also to reduce the pain in living. Suicide itself eliminates suffering, but even so people who use this site are obviously still alive, so it makes sense to help each other until we reach the decision or until circumstances force us to make that decision. And for many there is no deadline to make the decision, as external circumstances and internal outlooks play their part as well, and are subject to change. And much of the advice of this site is useful as well, because we've all been through or are going through the same or similar kinds of troubles and because most of us believe that there is nothing intrinsically bad in suicide and death, it then pushes us to think of reasons to live when we know deep down that death itself is a solution. That's the key difference between this site and sites which are actively against the right to die, in that they believe death is bad and life is precious, and that we should live precisely for that reason. But few, if anyone on here will buy into that, but just want a frank and open discussion on suicide: the reasons to live and make life a little easier and likewise, have the guidance, if wanted, to exit peacefully.
But there have definitely been people here who have decided to die, just as there are others here who are postponing it, and others still who have gave up on the idea altogether. Everyone benefits in some way or another, as sound advice from like-minded people especially those who see suicide as neither morally wrong nor a selfish act - the latter perhaps being the most insulting and ignorant criticism of those against the right to die - invaluable.
