I agree with a few sentiments but I am still losing braincells listening to this. Had to stop early to prevent further damage.

Oh yeah, don't vent, just swallow your problems in unhealthy ways.

You know what kills people? Keeping all problems for yourself. Do you know what hurts your relative? Finding you extremely depressed, dead, or distant, because they clearly will see you bad at some point, yet you will refuse to talk, because the internet said so.

This content is targeted for the wide society. Most people don't really care about anything, so you just have to get along. The people they tell you to cater to are the very same who attack the suicidal for their feelings for being too weak. They don't want you to vent, or anything that inconveniences them, they want you to get along and pass the time. There is a huge problem with mental health who needs to be addressed in first place, so this BS doesn't happen. Will you really be happier with this kind of people around? What you should be doing in first place is getting people who cares about you. Filter the bad weed and get people who allows you to be the way you are, not the other way around, and why so many people feels completely lost in the current society.

I'd take any YouTube advice with a huge pile of salt. If you want advice, get a real therapist. Maybe it's not intentional, but YT videos mostly exploit the insecurities of vulnerable people, instead of talking about the real issues.

This doesn't mean you should isolate from others, or that you shouldn't change your bad traits. If you get in a relationship that matters will take some work om your part too. As a proof of that, people here vents literally all the time, in worse ways than the people who watches those videos, but it allows to bond over similar problems, and users create strong bonds regardless, even after successful recoveries.

BTW, we are only users, if you have a therapist, they may be better suited to answer your concerns about mental health.

I think the video is just unnecessarily long, with a stupid title. He doesn't say anything that disagrees with this site.
A summary is: Venting is bad if you aren't doing anything to fix your situation. And if you can't fix your situation, venting is not bad (5:40).

above post basically is it, but i thought i would add on;

Dr K/healthygamergg usually makes good videos (if theyre for you, theyre good, its ok if its not, personally "fix your life" kind of channels dont help me at all, it helps me more when i figure things out myself and it usually takes me lots of time for me to actually process advice when i experience something irl), usually including research, personal experience and observation in his own work as a professional. if its up your alley, he has some meditation videos and interviews outside of his usual stuff. but i totally understand being put off the thumbnail, im pretty sure he has other people do these things; i remember viewers were not happy with the fast paced editing/cuts in the videos and thats been improved on, so hopefully soon the content will be less algorithm grabbing and flashy because if it wasnt by Dr K i wouldve never clicked on it. the thing with most advice is it is for you to hold, and you get to decide if its for you or not, or if it really is the truth, which is subjective for anyone and imo theres no shame in disagreeing with someone with these kinds of mental health videos cause at the end of the day these people don't personally know you anyways and idk youre always allowed to disagree on advice whatever it may be.

I've bought "Dr K's Guide". I think his work's good quality. I don't use it much, as the problems I wish to solve lie elsewhere. And I think he sticks to uncontroversial regions that nevertheless aren't said enough. But I think he's certainly perceptive & sensible

Some things to keep in mind:
  • He's an advisor. His audience isn't supposed to "believe him", but rather add his perspective to their mental toolkits
  • Youtubers tend to be punished if their headlines aren't clickbait-y
  • Shrinks have a historical bias against focus on problem-solving. Hence the rise of coaches
On the vid's content, I don't see the controversy. Venting, without expectation of solving problems, can be helpful for a while, but at some point it should engage into conversation (mutual education), teamwork & action

I mean, venting is one-way communication. If you just look at it, it's a limited form of response to difficulty. If it's all you have, well...
