Im
Trying to make sure i get something done every week to get my plan together. I have to wait until after mid-October, but trying to move things forward.

I'm currently trying to find an anchor point..hoping to find a tree in a secluded nearby ravine. I need to have a rope to test one of the trees. It has a horizontal branch that is just a little too high for me to reach. I'd like to hang off it to see if it will handle my weight. Its diameter is probably 3 or 4 inches, and it looks flexible. It's some specifies of ficus.

I also want to rehike my trail in light of the idea of tying the rope to the trunk rather than a branch, as suggested here. Do do that I would need a tree on an inclined. Where I could first tie the running bowline, and later have my feet in the air. So off to explore that.

Thanks for any considerations you'd like to add

Fig wood is not very strong. The branches may bend. They may break. To find out whether the branch will bear your weight, you could try swinging on it and seeing how much it moves. If you have any doubts about this branch, you could look for a different species of tree.

Thanks Linda. This one has a good set up so I was optimistic. (I needed the rope to test, so I may still do that). The other species in this ravine are various conifers and big leaf maple, but they are very large and hard to figure out how to affix a rope to.

The topeblooks ok but the pic is cropped.
Check the load limits. It should be 2 or 3 times more than your weight.
