Is life just pointless?

I'm not a religious person, so perhaps my view is a bit biased.

I think that from an absolute point of view, life is just pointless. We are nothing but biological machines living by chance. According to some studies, it's possible to get organic compounds from inorganic ones under the same conditions presented on the early Earth. If this is right, the existence of god is not necessary to explain the origin of life.

I hope that Penrose et al. uncovered some ascension style higher level where we don't even have to ask that question. But assuming we are just machines like you said: Enjoyment. If that is possible or not largely depends on the birth lottery unfortunately.

I don't know that life really has an inherent meaning. According to Buddha, "Life is suffering." It's an interesting concept to consider.

I think it's all just a matter of perception. It's all how you look at it. The meaning of life is to give life meaning. You can either see it as meaningful or pointless. It's all in your mind. I do believe however that our minds are simply a receiver. A biological computer. And there is a core at the center of the universe sending this energy. All of it is connected and a part of the same source. We're all one. And when our brains shut down that energy will be redirected elsewhere. To another realm...the afterlife...and then back into another receiver. In my humble opinion.

Well, I want to ascend the social hierarchy (i.e., publish my novel and gain some degree of fame), but I have no desire to reproduce. I tend to equate sex with death, to put orgasm and the blessed relief that one would probably have in one's final lucid moment of life on the same plane.

I believe non-existence is more meaningful than life for intelligent machines like us who can commit suicide at will. No other species on earth can do that

I think humans have not adapted to modern society and living fully. We still want to be picking berries and fucking all day. That's true happiness. Not being a cog in a goddamn machine with all these other shallow things we can judge eachother by.

Oooh... That's a hard one. Why do I equate sex with death? I am not totally sure. Maybe because both sex and death involve a loss of control, of surrender to something greater than oneself. L'amour et la mort -- love and death are homonyms in French.
