idk if its from anxiety but im diagnosed with gerd and take medication for it and it hasnt eradicated the problem and i dont know if i should keep hope that it will.
Do you experience anxiety at all? If so, is it intermittent? chronic? persistent? situational? Is it mild? moderate? severe? debilitating?
The body's stress response to anxiety -- depending on its severity and persistence -- can wreak havoc. Among other things, it can increase acid production in the stomach as well as increase sensitivity to pain, worsening your response to baseline stomach acid activity.
is it realistically possible for me to get better?
Likely at a minimum, it'll be possible to at least reduce your suffering. How much "better" or "improvement" you could make in your situation depends on a wide variety of factors.
What I would see for you is for you to go to your doctor to get screened for possible mental health diagnoses and, if there is an identifiable problem, engage in a treatment program. If a doctor isn't an option right now, you could see if your college offers any counselling services or if anyone there could tell you of any community programs or organizations that might be helpful to you. Maybe there are group support meetings or opportunities to talk to professionals without necessarily having to make it "medically official."
If engaging with other people is flatly too stressful for you to do right now, then I'd go to Google and look for self-guided programs for improving mental and emotional well-being. I've seen people mention having success using ChatGPT for this purpose as well.
