It would work. In terms of time, it will be comparable to any other inert gas. Incidentally, it will be very foul smelling as a "rotten egg odourant" is added to the gas. I will be posting a report on propane gas asphyxiation tonight on my blog.

Modern propane has additives to make it smell and to make it more difficult to suicide.
I'm in Mexico, there's propane in every home. I tried to put a tube from the oven to a trash bag, but I was asphyxiating before I felt any real effects other than a little lightheadness and had to abort.

Also, keep in mind the explosive factor for anyone who might find you. I haven't researched this method but it sounds very dangerous for first responders and anyone else near by.
