Everyone makes such a big deal over the issue of dying. It's natural, I suppose.

But recently, I happened to be in the huge (and quite beautiful) Allerton cemetary in Liverpool, and looking around at the thousands of headstones I couldn't help but wonder what all the fuss was about. People exit their lives every day in the millions. Some headstones I've seen recently date back to 1750 and earlier. They came, did their thing, and left. The world didn't stop (although of course, for those close to the deceased it did at the time...). And the world won't stop when our turn comes around. Just a blip on the landscape of time.

I use to think that way when i'm trying to overcome a depressive crisis. It gives me some peace of mind.

I like to do that too when I'm really deep down, just take a walk in a cemetery, watch the names and dates, how long they lived, and sometimes even looking for someone with the same year of birth as me...yeah I know kind of weird, but it makes me feel better, it tells that after all everyone end up dead so why make it such a big deal

I always wanted to live next to a cemetary because at least you could be sure your neighbours would be quiet.:smiling:
No more overrated than living.

The flip side of the coin.

The big deal for me is the mental anguish and possibly physical suffering that precedes death. Are you indifferent to that? The finality of death? When you're dead you're gone, gone, gone, baby gone, for ever and ever.

Another big issue for me is missing out. I wanted to see the future. Now it seems my life will be cut short.

Some times it also feels like I'm losing the "game". Dying relatively young, even before my parents and sisters (I'm not on good terms with my father and sister) , feels like they have an edge over me. I'll also die before some people I feel should have died before me. People who have abused me and gotten away with it. While I'm lying in my grave, they'll still enjoy life and have experiences.

I also feel sad for my mother who have to see her child die before her.

Nothing I can do though. The inevitability of death, in a way, is a comforting thought.

Humans are emotional creatures. Even the ones with difficulties understanding them or those who pretend they are all logical to cope. Every single one of them has feeling and emotions and fear/worry is a big part of that. It's impossible to not worry about existence and death. You cannot reason your way out of the essential human experience.

Sorry, I didn't get a lot of that.

Indifferent? To what?
And if you think that when you're dead you're gone gone gone and baby whatever, good luck to you, but I don't. Thankfully, I don't...

You talk about the inevitability of death, and of course that's how it is. But I'm not a youngster, so for me it's a bit sad that so many on SS are so young and feel ctb is the way to go without having a fair shot at life.

I hope it works out for you, however it works out.

Nah, life is pretty cool. Death is somewhat overrated, but when I was healthy, there was no point in thinking about it. It happens to all of us eventually, so enjoy the time until the time comes. Unfortunately, some people have worse luck than others (accidents, illnesses, etc) that change circumstances.

I agree that living is extremely overrated, but dying is not. Dying is wonderful to me.
