I am deeply afraid of the afterlife... I'm more afraid of what might happen to me in the afterlife for committing suicide...
Can someone convince me that I won't go to hell... I already am living in hell but what if it continues when I die?

I have pondered now and again what awaits me on the other end. Even if not remotely tied to any religion of human origin.

How can someone convince you of something they haven't experienced themselves. The only way to know for sure is to die and find out. I was brought up kinda religious so I also worry about spending eternity in hell.

It'll be just like before you were born, aka nothing.

If God wouldn't let me into Heaven simply because I committed suicide then I wouldn't want to be in Heaven with Him anyway.

Seriously, what God would punish you with eternal damnation because the life He inflicted on you was just too much. Not to mention he would have certainly already foreseen your entire life before you were even born so at this point He's one step above a sadist at best.

I'm scared of dying (the pain) but not at all terrified of the afterlife, even though I have no idea what to expect. No one can know what it will be like, so really it's useless stressing over it. It'll probably be like, as others have said, just like it was before you were born - i.e. nothingness.

I hope there's nothing, or that whatever is after this is peaceful at the very least. I would love to come back as someone's pampered cat lol! I would be totally fine with that :)

There is no Heaven nor Hell. It is all evolution of the spirit. I recommend studying the Bardo Thodol (Tibetan Book of the Dead). The old man with the white beard in the clouds is an anthropomorphic personification of what awaits us, which is very short-sighted and inaccurate. There is more to life and death through the doorway. What happens here, in this lifetime and timeline, is understood by the cosmic order. Be at ease that your decision to leave is okay and that all will come to pass as it should :)

I just figure when we die, our minds die with it. No afterlife, no ghost, no reincarnation. We're just...gone. And honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing what the void of the end of life is like even if I can't consciously store it in memory or remember it in another lifetime.

I know that may not be comforting to those who believe in an afterlife or a new life, but it's just my silly opinion.

There is a part of me that hopes there is an afterlife, and that I am punished. It's no more than I deserve.

More likely, there is nothing. Its impossible for the human brain to comprehend nom-existnce, so its impossible to imagine.

I'm not religious at all, so I honestly have no idea what to expect after I CTB. Maybe nothingness, just like before I was born. Maybe reincarnation, or heaven/hell. I don't know. But I'm kind of excited to find out, actually, assuming I will have any conscious knowledge of what is happening. This is the great unanswered question, and in a couple of weeks, I might know the answer.

But no matter what happens after we go, it has to be better than what I'm living now, it just has to be.

Of course, I'm afraid that maybe I'm wrong about the after life and the result is more pain and suffering... And I'm not interested in oblivion. I want to exist. Just not like this.

I posted a link to a useful article that helped me, and in the same vein, I would consider researching NDEs. That's what the article that I posted is about.

HA! Why aren't more people open to this idea?! Oh wait...the human ego.

I don't think being skeptical has anything to do with ego. The physician cited in that goop article offers nothing but anecdotal accounts-- he may have thousands of them, but they are all anecdotes.

The subject of NDEs is interesting to discuss and speculate about, so long as you keep in mind that unverifiable anecdotes are no substitute for evidence.

I used to be terrified because I used to believe buddhist stories about reincarnation and suicide is one of the worst things you can do in those terms. I was seeing a therapist who told me that commiting suicide is like taking your coat off in the freezing cold. But now I think if we live in a universe that punishes those who are so desperate that they kill themselves... fuck no. It's just not happening

I don't take Buddhism too seriously considering it's the perfect religion to make the rich and the wealthy look good and make poor people look like shit. Coincidence? I think not...

There is no God. There is no hell. There is no evidence supporting the idea you'll be punished and it's all religious bullshit programming. If you have every reason to ctb and you're still thinking about this then it might just be survival instinct.

I'm an atheist myself and here is my take on this. Before I was born, I didn't have a conscious, did not feel or sense anything because I simply did not exist. If there isn't an beforelife/prelife then there isn't likely to be an afterlife. This is probably the most simplistic explanation that I can give and I don't know if that reassures you any but that's just my take on this.

Agreed and I do recall an actual video that an atheist youtuber by the name of HolyKoolAid made about heaven. Anyways, (playing devil's advocate) suppose there was a heaven and hell, I would rather suffer the consequences of the afterlife (going to hell) knowing that I exercised my free will, stood up to the bullshit that a diety and society itself has imposed upon me during my time on Earth than to live eternally (with the same prolife fuckers up there) blissfully there.
