Hey guys! I'm researching depression and it's treatments as my school assignment and I would love to hear your stories. In my country, there's not much knowledge about mental health and as a result, can be stigmatised. That is the reason I chose to write about depression. I hope I don't break any rules.

My work will not be published or anthing like that, the only person who will see my work will most likely be my teacher. I won't mention SS in any way, as I don't want his site to get taken down.

All of your information you decide to share will be anonymous, there will be no names or anything (unless you choose a different name, I can call you Batman, I don't care).

You don't have to answer all of my questions. I will be grateful for any answers.



When did you first realise something was not quite right?



How long have you been suffering from depression?



Have you tried to reach out for help? How did it go?

Hi there!!
I realised I was depressed in my teens. I was bullied at school and I lost my grandad when I was 9years old. He was my hero and he died of Cancer.
Because if the bullying I had developed self esteem issues. I had no confidence. My parents didn't care.
I have suffered with depression for 24 years or so.
I have had all sorts of counselling, Psychiatrist, psychologists, Cognitive behaviour therapy, BPD counselling, CBT-I, Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic counselling.
Ive been on an array of meds
Here is a list
Trazadone
Mirtazipine
Quetiapine
Zopiclone
Zolpidem
Oxazipam
Diazepam
Lormatazepam
Tamazepam
Fluoxetine
Citilopram
Propanolol
Promethazine

These meds did help in varying ways.
I'm only on 4 of these meds now. I've been on these meds in different stages of my life. ( not all at the same time)
Some of the therapy did help. Some of it didn't.
I would like people to know that depression can be managed. Some forms of depression are more challenging to manage. Sometimes it can't be managed at all. Depression can rob you of everything and it can be a struggle to manage day to day.
Depression is a horrible condition. There are many reasons why people have depression.
such as
Abuse, trauma, socio-economic problems like poverty, genetic factors/ susceptibility, bullying, divorce, societal expectations, grief, physical illness, Psycho-social pressures, jobloss, loneliness, Death of a loved one and emotional neglect and other forms of neglect.
This is my understanding of what can cause depression.
There is also a possible connection with low serotonin, dopamine and GABA in the brain.

You're welcome. Also another bad thing to eat is seeds. It is said that grains and seeds are bad. It is also said that Schizophrenia has been known ( in the past) as bread madness. To many seeds and grains are bad for human beings. Seed are poisonous and they don't want to be eaten. They have defense mechanisms that make them indigestible.

I've always felt like something wasn't right-this ended up being true. I started developing depression when I was 10, so it's been 8 years. I reached out for help a year ago for the first time and I got help, just not the kind I necessarily needed. I've tried a few medications and they didn't make me feel better or worse. Just the same. I didn't find therapy helpful, I'm very wary of therapists. I guess I'd want others to know that depression can strike anybody and it can suck the meaning and life out of everything. It's a struggle for me to get out of bed but I do it anyway because if I don't I hate myself even more.

HI, I CAN'T FULLY REMEMBER BUT WAS DIAGNOSED PROPERLY BY A REAL DOCTOR IN 2011.

How long have you been suffering from depression?
PROBABLY SINCE CHILDHOOD


Have you tried to reach out for help? How did it go?
YES, THE THE WORST PLACES ARE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH TEAMS AS THEY ARE PEN PUSHERS WITH NO COMPASSION.

TOO SCARED TO TAKE THEM


If you did attend therapy, did you find it helful?
SOMETIMES YES. A TRAINEE WAS ONE OF TGE BEST TO HELP ME AT A CENTRE FOR LGBTQ YOUNG PEOPLE.


What would you like other people to know about depression?
THAT PEOPLES NEGATIVE ATTITUDES IS EVEN MORE HARM ON TOP OF THE MISERY OF BEING TRAPPED WTH AN ENEMY INSIDE YOUR OWN HEAD THAT YOU CANT SEE OR DEFEAT.
THIS CAN AND OFTEN DOES INCLUDE THE COUNCIL LANDLORD IF YOU LIVE IN ENGLAND

When did you first realize something was not quite right?

I was in the fourth grade and remember sitting on the school playground thinking to myself "why can't I be like everyone else". Instead of playing with classmates I was sitting there hiding my self harm scars and hating myself and wishing I could end my life. That's when it truly hit.

How long have you been suffering from depression?

~10 years

Have you tried to reach out for help? How did it go?

Other than the first therapy session, no. I have reached out to friends before, but after realizing nobody cares about your problems I stopped.

If you did attend therapy, did you find it helpful?

I was nine when I had my first therapy session, I feel as though it would have helped me out a lot. However my parents decided to stop taking me. As I've grown I think back and it was most likely embarrassment/guilt from having to take their child to therapy at such a young age.

I knew there was something wrong with me when I was in 3rd grade. I would look around at my classmates and see them happily interacting with each other. They weren't chronically worried or unhappy. I wondered what was wrong with me to make me so different. I felt alienated.

I've been suffering from depression for 12 years or so.

I tried to reach out to friends often when I was younger. I was always so distressed. Understandably, people grew tired of me and eventually left. I mean, they're not professionals and we were teenagers - how were they supposed to know how to support me? It wasn't fair of me to expect that. As time has gone on, I have been going through lots of meds and therapy. I tried to explain my anxiety and depression to my parents but they don't believe it's a problem. They act like it's my fault because I'm weak.

None of my antidepressants have helped take the edge off of my depression. At best, they help my anxiety. Some meds greatly increased my anxiety. Some meds made me impulsively suicidal.

I don't find therapy helpful.

I would let people know that it's not helpful, in fact it's rather insulting, to insist that I have to want to get better or that I need to still try to find help. Sometimes depression cannot be helped. What do you do when it's still severe despite all of your efforts to improve? How much longer must I suffer before i finally kill myself? Because this isn't going to get better. It's only gotten worse over the years.
