I am currently watching this movie right now for the second time I watched it back in 2015 and didn´t think much of it but damn it´s SO relateable and depressing to watch it now, it feels like the movie was meant more for adult like losing "Friendship Island" and other Islands and I haven´t even gotten to the imaginary friend yet but damn when you are suicidal and/or depressed this movie is just spot on damn it´s sad.

I think it's a great movie to actually teach kids about emotional health and mental illnesses in general.

It might be but I am not sure they will get it but watching it now as an adult and drunk it hits so hard every scene is so relateable :'(

I loved the movie. It shows that sadness is healthy-
Notice that when Riley was depressed and ran away, sadness and joy were both out of headquarters. The sadness character wasn't contributing to her depression. Very interesting.

Riley felt nothing at one point, when she was running away.
I don't think, imo, she was depressed before that idea was locked in. The emotions were not in control anymore.
I think that's when she became depressed.
Sadness contributed to her healing. The movie shows all emotions are necessary and essential and healthy in a way for kids to understand. That it's okay and normal to not feel happy every moment of your life. It shows how easily it can get out of control when you don't allow yourself to feel the emotions that are presenting themselves.

I watched it once back when it first came out, but also didn't think much of it. I'm currently bed ridden so I'm thinking I'll give it another watch. Thanks for the thread.
Also, didn't think much of it because that was long before I thought about anything in life.

Riley tried to be optimistic about the move, but everything seemed to turn out in the most negative of ways in a child's mind.
I think she became angry and frustrated and afraid etc etc, but I think the depression only settled in and became apparent when she essentially gave up trying to be optimistic and waiting for things to get better.
Inside out and big hero 6 are my favorite children's movies as they're big on emotional well-being.
One shows emotions are okay to be felt, even the negative ones, and the other show it's okay to ask for help when you're overwhelmed with those negative emotions, and a great support system can help you overcome it.
(Sorry, just have a strong opinion on these. I've seen both a million times)

It's a good movie. Pretty much is what everyone say. But yeah, the disinterest Riley has in the last part is very relatable.

I only watched a bit of it on TV. How did Riley manage to overcome her depression in the end?

For sure one of my top 5 favorite movies. I would cry at the ending because that hit home for me.
