I have noticed how much more depressed Iam with increased suicidal thinking when I have a tooth abcess and have been put on antibiotics. My moods are swinging more than normal as well. Got to wait until 9th of january to have this tooth out as thats the quickest the surgeon could fit me in. I need to be knocked out for it because it is a difficult one to take out and because of my mental health condition, which is why a surgeon is taking it out and not a normal dentist.

We are in such a similar situation, I missed my last date for this tooth to come out because I was in a psychiatric unit so it was cancelled.

I'm so sorry to hear about both of your situations. Dental problems are the worst. I hate going to the dentist. I can see how a dental problem could increase anxiety, depression, and suicidal desires. It would certainly make me more suicidal. I hope you both get your dental issues fixed soon and get some relief.

I can definitely relate to feeling more depressed when I have a toothache. I often eat to make myself feel better, but when my teeth are hurting it really takes the enjoyment out of these comfort meals. Hope you feel better soon.

There's a strong link between inflammation and depression. Chemicals emitted by your immune system can cross the blood brain barrier and essentially trigger a form of neurotoxicity.

Tooth abscess sucks. I've had one due to my wisdom teeth. I was stupid and didn't get them out when I was younger. Was on antibiotics left and right, felt like pure death. So it makes a lot of sense why your moods are shifting. I've noticed even when I get sick with a slight cold, it changes my mood as well. The way we sleep, eat, etc. All of it impacts us. Even on my less symptomatic days though, I still feel like a mess... But I am so glad you'll be able to take care of it soon! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

When I had my dental abscess and exposed nerve in my back molar it was truly the worst pain I've ever experienced. I truly thought about suicide and it was point in my life where I wasn't thinking about suicide as much as other times. I had an aunt tell me that tooth pain is worse than giving birth and I honestly believe her.

Had one of my teeth removed and ate ibuprofen for that pain. After about a week, I started getting really bad heartburn kind of pain, figured it might be because of the ibuprofen and thought that the pain from the ex-tooth couldn't be as bad as the pain in my chest and throat. So I skipped taking the ibuprofen and in a few hours I was ready to pick up a knife from the drawer and slit my wrists. The pain in where tooth had been was unreal, I was convinced the site had become infected and wasn't sure if I'd be able to wait for the dentist to return my call before killing myself. I was able to hold on long enough to get the call back, was prescribed antibiotics and told to come in the next day, picked the meds up at the pharmacy and took some ibuprofen as well. The next day I was perfectly fine, the dentist didn't find anything problematic in my mouth and so the nightmare scenario must have been a simple result of stopping the pain medication regiment too soon. I learned a couple of things from that bullshit ordeal: 1) ibuprofen is, surprisingly enough, much more effective in killing pain originating in the mouth than opiates are (I'm an addict, so of course my first course of action was to double up my daily dose of my drug of choice, didn't do a damn thing to curb the pain and it was only when I resumed taking ibuprofen that I finally got relief), and 2) dental pain is very effective fuel for suicidal ideation.

If you have a sinus infection it can trigger agonising pain in your back molars and the dentist won't find anything (been there earlier this year), sinus infections can also trigger conjunctivitis as the gunge comes up through the tear ducts (as I also found out).
If you've been given antibiotics then check the side effects - ciprofloxacin certainly does have suicide ideation as a side effect - as I found out when I was given it for said sinus infection and it triggered suicide ideation within a few days of starting it.. which is how I ended up here. The ideation faded within a day of finishing the course.
Tooth pain is the absolute worst as you can't move it without pain and it hurts to chew and swallow - it's the pits.

Well, dentists have always been quite scary eh...

Anesthesia/euthanasia are just a few words away, I'll be more careful next time.
