im scared that this depression has gone too far and i will never regain normal brain function. i feel like after years and years of mental neglect and not seeking help has deteriorated me to a point of no return. does anyone else feel the same?

yeah, my brain feels so fucked, I don't even have the words to describe it anymore. The brain fog sure as hell doesn't help either.

@happy1234 and @Bed are you referring to a cognitive decline (like loss of the ability to solve problems or difficulty with reading comprehension) or decline in social/coping skills? Asking because cognitive decline can certainly be reversed by simply practicing what you are struggling with. Sorry if this is coming across as self-help(ish). But there was a point where I lost some of my social skills due to remote work, living alone, not going out as much. I had to active seek out situations where I spoke to strangers, engaged colleagues in conversation, and just socialized more. It did work.

Similarly, I have lost some of my math knowledge due to lack of use over the years. I could probably get it back, but I don't know if I would ever be at the same level I was in graduate school.

no worries, it didn't come off that way. For the most part for me, I think it's a decline in social/coping skills but i believe my fibromyalgia makes it worse on top of depression/anxiety due to brain fog and getting things mixed up.

I do sometimes spell out a word that I don't mean to though, that is similarly spelt to the word i'm thinking of.

I assume it's just a lack of social interaction and being on the internet all day now, just melting my brain to cope until i ctb.

What about just reading a book that interests you? Start off slow and make sure you understand the story. Have your phone handy to define words you don't know.

I'm sorry you have to suffer like this. It can be horrible being trapped in this human body. Whatever happens, I wish you the best.
