My mom decided I'm not allowed to have a door on my room anymore.

I'm realising how small it sounds when typing it, but it isn't. That door was quite literally the only thing in the house that made me feel safe.

I am 23 years old. I pay rent, phone bill for the family, utilities, and car insurance. But I'm still treated like I'm 12.

Now there's no separation. No privacy. No place to exist without being seen or listened to.

I can't even relax properly now. I'd be too paranoid to play games, talk to friends, speak out loud, or even fucking sleep.

I don't understand how someone can do that to another living person.

I don't even deserve basic boundaries anymore I guess. I'm not allowed to have anything that's just mine. My room has to be open, ready for inspection by my control freak mother at all times.

"Just ignore the several threats against your life that she makes several times a week, everything will work out in the end!"

My Dad got off easy, he doesn't have to be alive for this shit anymore. I hope I can work up the courage to join him soon.

That doesn't sound small at all. This is an intolerable situation. She took the door off its hinges by herself? Has it already been disposed of?

This is insane. You need your privacy like everyone. I cannot understand your mother's reaction. My mother treat me like a child too (I'm 43...) but thanks God I live alone. No wonder you're suicidal... I send you hugs and I hope you can find a solution 🙏💖 Take care

This is triggering me so badly. I'm pretty quiet and introverted so I just can't imagine being in a room like that.I'm so sorry.

Why did she decide that?
but my question now is how did it get to this that she toke your door?
Because I put a lock on my door after we had one of her "friends" move in temporarily and he started stealing shit from all of our rooms. She didn't like the fact that I installed that lock to prevent that in the future. So if she can't have her little power trip of tearing my room apart and searching all of my things like she has for the past 23 years of my life, then she simply thinks that it's time to get rid of the door completely.

Complete. Fucking. Control. Freak.

Are you financially stable enough to move out? You said you're paying rent and multiple bills, so you must have some sort of income.

it sucks what your going through. My mom power trip with my room door for a very long time but luckily my dad and sister step in seeing how afraid and sad I looked dealing my mom with her yelling and screaming at me and bang my door very hard and her threatening to chop the door down or call the fire department to do it for her. she really hates people setting boundaries with her

I don't know you're situation, but if you are paying rent, utes, and have a car, you must be drawing an income somehow - and are able to leave the house.

Would it be entirely cost probibitive to find a roomate to share rent elsewhere.

Or live out of your car until you can?

No door sounds like a terrible way to live.

I'd probably buy a tent and live on the street if that happenned.

I'm not female, but I'd still be a flapper!
