Penpals can be a difficult proposition. Some are scams run out of prison. Some are people looking to get money or entry to a prosperous country. Probably the two groups of people more likely to offer sincere correspondence are those looking to date and those attempting to improve their English. Many penpals drop out after two or three letters.
