I'm happy, I received an email this morning saying my transcript finally arrived at the college! I'm so excited to take this next step in life, and improve myself. I think this will offer a great chance at recovery for me. I'll meet new people, do interesting things, and I'll try to keep the end goal in mind to keep me motivated.

If I can handle it, I may try and get a job after I'm in college for extra pocket money but if not, that's fine too. I have a pretty big chunk of money saved if I need it. If I feel I need money, I could always get a job next summer (after 3 semesters) if I take that summer off and save all the money I make. Either way, I'm motivated and I want to make this work no matter what.

God, I feel so excited!

Congratulations!!! Should be a lot of fun. I'm in college right now and one thing I regretted was not doing any clubs my first few years so definitely try and find a club that interests you. Living away from home in a new place is a ton of fun!

Thanks!! I'm actually living with my mom, at least while I'm in community college. The college I'm going to doesn't have on-campus housing or anything. Not too many clubs but there are some that I might consider joining. Once I transfer to University, I imagine there will be more opportunities.

Congratulations on receiving your transcript and taking the next step in your life! It's great to hear that you're excited about going to college and the opportunities it will bring. It's okay to feel a bit nervous or unsure about the future, but remember to keep your end goal in mind and stay motivated. It's also good that you have some money saved up and are considering getting a job in the future if you need it. Enjoy this exciting time in your life and best of luck in your college journey!

Thank you! I'm definitely a bit fearful and nervous but I'm that way about any sort of change. I'll try to enjoy this as best I can, and I wish you the best in life as well!

Congrats!! College is unique in that it's the one time in your life where you'll constantly be surrounded by your friends and see them everyday (or you'll have the ability to). There'll be ups and downs, but so does everything. Be proud of yourself!! This is huge, I hope you have the greatest time. You deserve it.

Thanks! I'm absolutely excited to meet new friends (although it's computer science and I've heard some people can be elitist and try to 1-up everyone, I'll just ignore them), and new people in general. I surely hope there will be more ups than there are downs. A lot of my issues stem from a breakup and college will certainly keep my mind occupied, so I sense that it will help me improve. Again, thank you so much, I hope I have a good time!

I have had the worst luck so I want to update.

I've been told to do the orientation (probably a lot of time left to do it, it just came out today) and when I tried to do it, I got an error message that my account hasn't been set up yet. I sent an email to the orientation app's support email, and no update yet or email back. I checked the ticket status and it was last modified at about 3:20 PM so maybe it will be resolved tomorrow? I'd like to get it done as soon as possible as this waiting is really stressful to me.

Don't apologise for updating! I feel so excited for you! I've started so many course then given up due to mental health, my best advice would be just try to stick to it whatever happens! You'll never regret going to college and it will change your life. Apart from anything else, being around other people and socialising is healthy. I'm really proud of you! Update as much as you like xx

Thanks! I want to try and stick it out, because my family believes in me. I'll be the first in my family to go to college as far as I know. The closest that I can think of was my uncle, who worked for the city as a mechanic, and did an online college course that they paid for so he could get a raise.

I don't see myself regretting it, it should lead to an above average paying career, and I want to make new friends, but I'm not super social unless I get to know someone but I'm sure I'll open up to people eventually. Thanks for encouraging updates, I do enjoy doing them! :)
Thanks!

So, I've completed online orientation, and it's made me realize a few things.

1. I have no clue what I'm doing
2. I need to set up a meeting with a completion coach and find out what I'm suppose to do (ie. register for classes, financial aid stuff if he can help, etc)
3. I still haven't been approved for financial aid, which scares me as I don't think I can afford to buy textbooks without it.

I'm trying to remind myself everything will be okay though.

Congratulations on going to college! I hope that you're able to find some new friends and learn more about your passions. What interests you in particular about computer science?

It's ok to be unsure about what you're doing. Starting college for the first time is a big step, and it's totally understandable to be overwhelmed. I hope the meeting with the completion coach goes well, and that you will be approved for financial aid!

Mainly, I like tech and I know this a career with good prospects and good jobs. I like building stuff and I also have ADHD so I feel like programming will help me with that side of my brain.

I haven't planned one yet but I probably will soon, I'm just trying to relax and trying to calm down right now lol. Also yeah, I should get financial aid, my family makes less than $30,000 a year.

Ngl I just had a panic attack over the whole thing, I hate being overwhelmed but hopefully I can resolve this soon. I've been perpetually stressed since I signed up for college.

Hey so just an update, I found out how much financial aid I'm getting, it should be enough to pay my whole tuition for the semester and maybe for books, I don't know yet. I'm meeting with the college completion guy today virtually so he can help me register for classes. I found out my registration was on hold because they thought I hadn't registered for the selective service (even though I did so in January of this year), so I cleared that up. My mind is less clouded than it was when I was really stressed. Things like this tend to have a way of working themselves out so I don't even know why I get so stressed so easily.

So I would edit but it doesn't let me, sorry for spamming, I just don't want to create a lot of new threads. My completion coach had to reschedule the meeting because he had another meeting booked today so now it's tomorrow evening now. I'm not as nervous but he talks like a robot, his professionalism is astonishing, but I feel it will be hard to talk with him as a result tomorrow. He's nice and everything, just almost robotic. Anyways, I hope it goes alright tomorrow and I can actually register for these classes.

Another update, I registered for 4 classes during the summer and 5 during the fall. I can't believe I'm actually doing this, I'm literally so excited and afraid at the same time. My completion coach was really nice and helpful and told me not to hesitate to reach out if I need help. Also, told me about the tutoring and how I might need it as the math classes are fairly difficult.

I'm a bit down that 8 out of the 9 classes are online but apparently Covid is still affecting the college and in person classes during the summer aren't super common there. I'm still glad I'm taking this step for recovery.

I'm so happy for you and glad your college experience has been going well so far. Your fear is totally understandable, just remember that it's a common experience for everyone. It's great that your completion coach has been so helpful and guided you to resources for tutors. I'm proud of you for taking this big step and continue to wish you luck on your adventure!

Thank you! I really hope it continues to go well, especially as it starts late next month, I'm still a bit afraid because I don't know how I'll do in completely remote college but in High School, my grades improved during remote. But it's great to hear that my fear isn't unreasonable or uncommon. Honestly though, remote might make getting a job and getting some hours easier if I choose to do that, but I'm trying not to put too much pressure to do a lot of things at once lol. Thank you so much for your reply, it means a lot
