I only see the guy because he's pretty lenient on prescribing medications. But he's weird. Makes me nervous. Comes off as a guy who likes to fuck with people. Like a sociopath. He always makes these sly remarks and jumps to weird topics that's totally unrelated to my visit.

During my last visit he humiliated me. I wanted to see how much I weighed on his doctors scales so I could find out they matched the digital ones at home.

I got on them and he just sit there. I never used doctors scales before and didn't understand how they worked. I said "I need alittle help here".

He just sort of looked at me funny while still seated. I fumbled with those god damn scales for about 3 minutes until I finally figured it out.

When I got off he said "I don't think taking your wallet out is going to change how much you weigh". Wtf? I know that. I did it out of habit.

I felt angry, embarrassed, and stupid.

I seen him when I was a teen and early 20s. He was always like this. Sometimes he's nice, other times intimidating. Sometimes he acts like he's coked out of his mind.

Psychiatry is a protoscience.

A psychiatrist prescribing medication is the equivalent to a clown throwing knives at a dartboard. See a Neurologist who can actually look at physical evidence of your brain function and diagnosis accordingly.

I'm sorry to hear that? Can you stop visiting him or get a new psychiatrist?
Or just tell him what a piece of shit he is.

The problem is most doctors doing private practice won't accept Medicaid. Also I'm afraid of losing my Xanax. A lot of doctors here are pretty stingey about it and often won't prescribe and instead put their patients though a "tapering off" program. Fuck that. I'll take the humiliation over benzo withdraws.

What really bothered me was that he didn't help me with the doctors scales. Also he has a history of being an asshole. I wouldn't mind if someone else said a comment like that about the wallet.

Would be terrified to tell my therapist off as they could just be like "Lol, have fun being involuntarily committed to the local mental ward"

It would depend on the tone of voice and how it was said. I've been with doctors and nurses who made remarks with a certain tone of voice. You can say the same thing in two different ways and it means a different thing. One time you might laugh, the other you want to punch them in the face.

I totally agree. I know his personality and the tone wasn't playful but antagonizing.

I've dealt with the same shit from doctors and nurses. Some of them definitely seem sociopathic. I had one doctor in a hospital who was absolutely a total sociopath. The entire time I was there, actually. With a bunch of shit. And then when it came time to leave and I was going to be homeless, I wanted to stay for a bit to figure things out, but my insurance was up. She honestly came and got me at the end of the hall and surrounded me with a group of security guard to intimidate me, and then spoke to me with this fucking look in her eyes saying that she wanted to "help" me, and started talking about court orders and she wanted to talk to me to see if I was a threat to myself or others and getting me on all kinds of meds, and she was looking at me like "Believe me, I'm gonna fuck you." Then I got upset and was walking around quietly crying to myself, and one of the CNA's behind the counter heard me and started laughing and said to the doctor "He's crying!!!" It was totally fucked up. Then I said I'd leave and she changed her tone. She was a nut.

I believe you about the doctor, absolutely. But hey, if he's lenient with prescriptions...personally, I'd deal with it and kiss his ass.

Damn that is fucked up dude! I always keep in mind that doctors, nurses, and psychiatrists are more likely to be sociopaths than the general population.

Try immediately saying how you feel. "When you say that, I feel like an idiot. I take my wallet off out of habit." "When you leave me to fumble with these scales, it seems like you are enjoying my incompetence."

Good luck tomorrow.

I'm not on Medicaid but I am on Medicare and I've always wondered if the crap attitude I've gotten from some private practice providers who otherwise came well-referenced to me was because the reimbursement rates are so low relative to what they charge private pay patients.

I always get the two mixed up. I'm on the one that's not for senior citizens. You may be on to something.

Those government ran places are total crap! The one I went to when I was married a few states away didn't even prescribe Xanax. And get this - my appointments were done via fucking satellite! My psychiatrist was talking to me on a TV screen from who knows where. How does that work! Could have just Skyped at home ffs.

At least the place I went to after my divorce prescribed Xanax. They also did piss tests. I thought they were testing me for illegal drugs. After 3 tests came back positive for alcohol, my therapist warned me that if my test shows up positive again, they will have to take me off of it. State law apparently. These new tests show if someone drank alcohol up to 80 hours after sobering up.

Then they switched my doctor without giving me a reason. He was a dick. Tried to "scare" me out of taking Xanax. Said it caused dementia. I told him that study was debunked in 2015 and showed him the link on news.google.com. When the appointment ended the therapist was looking for his keys. I saw them poking out form underneath his keyboard. Told him "maybe you're the one with dementia" and gave him a pat on the back. ROASTED! Seriously I was pretty god damn pissed but held it together. The place abruptly shut down without warning. That should have been illegal because I had medication on the line.

Since I already knew the guy I see now (my uncle sees him as well), we sent him an e-mail and he was nice enough to get me booked for an appointment before my medication ran out.

Damn that's all super shitty. The doctor-by-satellite is so absurd.

Pats on the back like that are always the best way to drive home a roast, haha

Ha thanks!

Yeah those satellite meetings made me feel like I was on some sort of public access version of the Dr. Phil Snow.

Where exactly would one find a neurologist that would be willing to scan your brain, analyze it and prescribe you something based on it without having to spend 3+ months rent on it? Insurance sure as hell won't cover something like that and psychiatry is already expensive enough.
