I have reason to believe the police are after me and I could be facing a long prison sentence. I can't get into details but the paranoia and fear of the future and the massive guilt I feel are eating me up inside. All I do now is lay in my bed all day waiting for time to go by thinking that somehow that will heal things but I still feel terrible. I wish I could take back everything I've done but I can't and everyone hates me for them. What would you do if you were me?

What would you do if you were me?

That is impossible to answer.

I have reason to believe the police are after me

Good reason? reason enough for them to keep you in pre-trial detention?

Some people cope with prison better than being in society so who knows. Give it some time, what you have done might not feel so bad in time. That fact you feel remorseful is a good sign regardless.

I am so sorry. Are you sure it's a reality? Or is it paranoia? Some would, but many people are able to survive the sentence and go on. Peace to you.

I don't know what you did, so it's hard to say what I would do. I would deal with what is within my control, do my best to own my shit, and try to set things right for whatever I was responsible for. Probably wouldn't be an easy or quick process, but I'd work on accepting that as well, and try to learn from the situation so that I could do better going forward.

If I were you I would prob face up to it. I can say that because ive been there and ive done the time. I didnt want to keep looking at my mum & seeing the dissapointment in her eyes that I just kept fucking things up all the time. For me it was actually my chance to step up for the first time in my life and take responsibility for my actions. Id spent so much of my life blaming other people for everything that was wrong in my life or everything that went wrong, but it was me, always was. Noone else was responsible. If your feeling that guilt and wishing that you could take things back then to me that says that maybe you are ready to accept responsibility. Will it be easy? No. I wont kid you that it will be easy. But you can either choose to make that time hard for yourself or you can do something with that time too, so thats also up to you. Prison can give you opportunities that you dont get on the outside, so you should make the most of that. Its your chance to really turn things around and find another direction for yourself. Youve got the time he he he....but seriously, thats what i did. I used the education room every day. Starting out with getting my School certificate in English, Maths and Science, so that was my first HighSchool Qualification. I never made it through school on the outside so this was a big achievement for me. My next step was University Equivalency, for which I got two subjects and i also learnt how to write essays. My entire time in Prison was spent in the education department. It opened up so many avenues for me. The people working in there also bought people in from the outside to introduce me to various ideas about where my qualifications could take me, they tried to expand the way I looked at things and tried to introduce what opportunities were available to me out there once i left jail. I had an enrollment officer from the local University come in to see me to discuss potential courses i could look at. So when I eventually got out of prison i ended up going to University, starting an Adults start up course and then entering University as a fulltime student the following year. I completed a Bachelors degree in Science/Transferring to Medicine, became a Doctor, can you believe. As if I hadnt had enough study I even completed a PhD. So......If I were you??

I think I would try to stay alive. I've been reading accounts from political prisoners in the U.S. It's tricky but I'd try to make it through.

Depends on how bad the atmosphere is but I honestly think I'd stick with it for a while. Gives me structure and purpose and I don't have think too much about worldly things. Maybe I'd even enjoy it

You should ctb when and if you're ready (want to), not based on what others would do if they were in your position  I'm sorry to hear that this is all causing you to be on edge..

With that being said, where jail time is concerned, I'm a firm believer that depending on what it was that someone did they should do jail time.

If it's something minor, I really wouldn't worry that much about it lovey  if you do have a reason to believe that it's something which could land you a long time in jail, it's good that you do acknowledge that what you did might not have been the best route to go. Always here if you need me!

I think the first thing you need to do is work out whether you are actually facing prison, or whether you are mistaken or exaggerating the severity of punishment, or even whether you are fully paranoid and completely imagining a situation that doesn't actually exist.

Perhaps if you can provide some more information about the situation, albeit with the normal caution not to reveal enough to identify yourself nor make any incriminating admissions to crimes you have done, then people here can help you assess which of the above categories you are in.

For me personally, I can say that I would almost definitely end things if facing any kind of prison sentence. But that's just my own personal judgement, from weighing up my current quality of life, future things to live for, and total lack of ability to handle a prison environment. But everyone would make this assessment differently based on their own factors and the relative weight of each.

All I'll say is that it's not murder and that my crime is considered one of the worst among inmates and parole officers alike and criminals that have them on their record are attacked or shunned on the inside.

Sadly I do not have the money to afford one so if I do get arrested I'll have to rely on a public defender

Aah yep, I think I know what you are getting at.

Is it worth speaking to a public defender in advance, to get an idea of your options and possibilities? They may also indicate such a probable negative outcome that it helps cement your decision to suicide.

Child related?

Presumably.

they just said I had to be arrested first before I could talk to them

Could you try somewhere else? I don't know much about community legal services in the US, but there are presumably other branches or organisations?

I can't tell you what to do ... I don't think we are allowed to give advice on wether or not someone should end their life. As far as I'm concerned I already want to die anyway.
