Death never turned on me

I had to call out of work this morning because my mental health is so bad. My work is well aware of my mental issues and even has medical paper work from my doctor (they thought I was lying about how bad it is) and I still had to endure a phone call with my boss, who smugly says "if it's so bad how come you aren't on disability, and how come you're functional enough to take an online course?" I roll my eyes at this because they act like disability is so easy to get when it's actually not easy to get at ALL (I've tried over five times to get it WITH documentation AND appeals process) and as for my class? It's online and I'm able to have panic attacks in the comfort of my home while doing that work and not be in front of an audience….

I need the job and hate when I have to cal out, but between that job, my mental health, and online class balance is what I need while I'm still sadly living on this planet for the next few months. It just frustrates me how some employers will go out of their way to give mentally ill people a hard time, but then there's people who call out of work ALL the time without medical reasons and they're hardly spoken to about it.

To make matters worse I've thrown up at work (I've had cyclical vomiting for three years now due to losing the love of my life) and I was told to "control it better". I also don't want to hear nonsense about HR because HR isn't there to protect you… HR here didn't even handle sexual harassment cases well, let alone mental health. This just further reminds me of why I can't stay here because society does a really good job at reminding bipolar people what an issue they are and what an inconvenience they are. If we aren't serving the selfish humans, we are nothing but a burden

Control it better? That's shocking. I'm glad you took the day off you needed. Mental illness greatly impacts physical health. You needed and deserved this day like any other difficult health condition.

I'm with you on HR - I've raised the toxic behaviour (bullying and manipulation exploiting of the fact I'm autistic, with physical and mental health) of my manager to HR. Their response is to do little, and let the retailiation from the person I raised the complaint about escalate higher.

That sounds really awful and stressful what you have to deal with. To me, some people really are so insensitive and it is terrible the way that many people treat others. It is understandable why you would be glad to leave behind work.
