The letter was so upbeat. I really wonder if she was sad. I'm kinda attached to her letter and I guess to her? I relate to her and her situation in a lot of ways....

She seemed so happy to go...

Alot of newspapers find her words haunting, scary and heartbreaking. I find them peaceful and lovely. Maybe there's something wrong with me. I just wish suicide didn't make people feel hopeless :(.

But See You Later Maybe?

It's selfishly time for me to be happy and I know you can get down with that. Please try to remember me as a whole human you shared memories with and not just my final act. This is not your fault. It's not exactly easy for me either, I'm here for you. I love you. I always have and I always will, I promise. Shikata ga'nai.

that's good. shikata ga nai means "there's nothing I/you/we can do"

why do ppl find this haunting and scary? It's just her feels about this place and talk about food and what little things she's gonna miss. That makes me want to write a really haunting and scary fake death note just to offend pro-lifers

She probably was.
You can get tired of living just like you can get tired of anything else.
It's just that these kind of thoughts have been so medicalized by the political ideology running the western world (neoliberalism) that you can't even think about life being anything less than wonderful and a great gift without being labeled a psychopath.
I suggest you read "Capitalist realism: is there no alternative?" by Mark Fisher, really eye opening.
Also telling that the author caught the bus a couple of years ago.

From her note she seemed to have gone beyond the sad to a place of being resigned and ready to move on.

I found this on:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/ama0h8/young_manhattan_dietitian_tara_condell_hanged/

"Tara's father committed suicide some years ago, according to comments from family friends it had profound effect on Tara. It was she who found him. The family was very hopeful Tara would be okay, after therapy and several trips abroad her mother arranged to ease the pain. She discovered travel and parlayed a career out of it, but the turmoil and unanswered questions remained. Her mother found a new relationship and married eventually, it seems connecting with others was understandably difficult for Tara, her perfect posts masking this reality...she had several friendships could not find that someone to heal that original terrible wound...."

So yah, that is pretty tragic!

I was kind of confused by her situation as well, with apathy being her reason. Idk, maybe I do understand? It's a symptom of depression that can get wearing over time. I also suspect that her father's death played into in more than just the brief mention of it at the end suggests.

Well, so much for what I said earlier...
Still, though, that letter just feels so peaceful and serene. Like she had accepted that after her father's death her quality of life had deteriorated to the point that it was not worth living anymore and suicide was the next logical step.
I don't know, I still think she was not sad when she ctb.

didn't see this yet while I was typing! this makes sense!
It was taken from a reddit blog.
I have since tried to confirm by Googling, without luck.
Since people say lots of stuff on a blog, it may not be true.
So I recommend taking that with a grain of salt. Sorry.

I think most people on SS can understand this.
People who never suffered depression will NEVER be able to relate.

Definitely sad. Come on, we all plaster on the happy facade. I mean, she says it herself - empty life for a decade, wrote the note over and over in her head; she states "It's selfishly time for me to be happy"...

Definitely sad.

Tara note touched me and i can relate.
I guess when we have reached the acceptance stage then its a relief and any sadness we felt has passed and is only felt by those we leave behind.
Losing her dad to suicide must have just been an impossible loss to recover from and she was prob excited to be reunited with her dad.it just goes to show that all the materialistic things in the world are unimportant and once your heart is broken and your soul is lost than its a one way street to freedom.

What a beautiful and heartfelt note. I think she was ready to go. I can tell she tried to make the best out of her life, but too many forces working against her prevailed. It's a rational decision for her. No point in suffering when there's no sign that things would ever get better for her and no one to live for. Depression is cruel. Life is cruel and people can be, too.

Tara's death really touched me too. I too, am a nutritionist, traveller and foodie and her Instagram looks a lot like mine.

I do experience many bouts of happiness and could enjoy a lot of my time here if I had to - but it doesn't take away the monumental pain - I feel. And even if the ratio is like 70/30 or 60/40. I still want out. But I will most probably still be loving and laughing and smiling whatever I am doing - till the end.

That's horrible. If there is an afterlife of some sort, I hope she's with her father now.

I can see the sadness in her letter but I can also see the light in her. She seems eloquent, able to express herself and just genuinely a good person. The sort of person I would have liked to be friends with really.

I hope she's found peace though

Thank you for sharing the letter, she genuinely seems both happy and sad about leaving. I really relate to that feeling, so her letter really spoke to me.
