I grew up being the type to "cling to life at all cost". In my short time on this forum, I've learned a lot that has challenged that belief system. I've learned that everyone has their own beliefs and personal, valid life story. Animals are given the dignity to "let go" when suffering becomes insurmountable, yet humans do not have this right (in most geographical locations). How is this even possible in this day and age?

In my situation, I've suffered immense medical issues...recent brain surgery and postop blood clots, resulting in very high brain pressure. A shunt was placed but hasn't helped. So I live in 24/7 excruciating pain. I do believe in God and afterlife, but don't push my views on others. There's such a thing as not wanting to die, but being unable to live like this anymore. It's not selfishly driven. I see the toll my health and care is taking on my husband and family. I don't want this for them either. So that's my story. I wish there were more dignified choices for humans.

Yeah, I can understand the feeling of not necessarily wanting to die as an end goal, but not wanting to live this way, either. If there were a way to magically improve everything that was wrong in my life, or at least the parts I found unbearable, I wouldn't be suicidal. But there isn't, so I want to CTB. It's not ideal, but I'm too exhausted.

Just wanting some peace

To me it's awful how we live in a world that denies people the option of a legalised peaceful exit as this means that people have to struggle so much in finding ways to be free from this world. We really do live in a pro suffering society and I find the view that life must be prolonged at all costs to be so wrong. Instead life should be viewed as a personal choice not something that must be endured no matter what.

There is no benefit to suffering endlessly just to eventually die anyway and there is simply nothing wrong with suicide, and to me those who are against the option of a peaceful right to die are insane. Maybe even many of the people who view suicide as being worse than suffering would want a peaceful method if life got much worse for them. But it certainly is a cruel existence that tortures people to such a great extent.
