I was turned away by yet another therapist

Yesterday at a new clinic I'm going to a therapist/social worker told me with my health issues and history of violent trauma, abuse, neglect, etc, that my case was just too complex and she couldn't help me and don't bother making an appointment for next week. I've had two psychologists, two psychiatrists, and another therapist either drop me as a patient or say the same thing. They know a lost cause when they see one. I've tried so hard to get help and to help myself but my situation is truly hopeless. I can live out the rest of my life disabled, sick, and alone on the streets or ctb.

Some good news is that I had a dental exam at the same clinic and don't have any cavities, so there's at least that

We truly live in weird times. Therapists are here solely to drug normal people so that they become ideal wage slaves instead of assisting those who are damaged. Most people here dread being directed to a mental health specialist and you would expect the opposite in a normal functioning society. Yet some will claim that we are the weird ones for refusing to trust these mental health institutions --which have proved themselves to be useless over and over again. I would not expect any better in times where health industry aims to cure people only to a certain degree so that the patients will visit the hospitals again or where education system aims to police our thoughts so that nobody starts thinking more than they are supposed to. Pure madness! Shame on those authorities that turned your situation hopeless.

Regardless, I am happy that you have healthy teeth. I am not a mental health expert and I doubt that I can offer you sound solutions but I could try reading your problems if you want to and if that would make you feel better.

Therapists usually don't drug people. Psychiatrists do and they get really pissed off if you tell them no or question the drugs they want want to prescribe you. The last psychiatrist I saw threatened my mom, telling her over the phone that she was going to put me in a mental hospital if she didn't allow her to prescribe me prozac. For context, a large part of why my mom was wary about said medication was because one of the side effects was suicidal thoughts and I had attempted suicide not that long ago.

Most therapists cannot prescribe drugs but you are right about the other stuff in regards to them. To make matters worse, I've heard a lot of stories about them doing things that you would think they wouldn't, since they should know better. This includes them quickly jumping to the conclusion that their patients have repressed memories because they can't remember something, despite there usually being better reasons for why they may not remember an event (such as it happening during early childhood), trying to uncover repressed memories even though there's a very high chance that all they are doing is inducing false memories into their patients, getting them to do personality quizzes despite most of said quizzes having no evidence to back them up, diagnosing random people they don't know, etc.

While I can be understanding of social workers who help with things, like employment, most social workers are a joke too. I've seen several social workers thoughout my childhood and none of them had any real impact on my life. Most of them were nice but I don't understand the point of them since they weren't that helpful for even the simplest of problems. They are also guilty of a lot of the things I mentioned about psychotheraptists. In grade 5, the clincian I saw, who was usually with my lawyer, tried to claim that I had a learning disability because I was doing poorly in my classes at the time. She based this on my shitty grades alone, despite the fact that my grades were fine the year prior.

Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is genuinely a joke and most of the people in those professions are usually very self-absorbed. They can at best provide you with the illusion of improvement but that's it. I'm not that suprised about what happended to the op since that sounds exactly like something they would do. They only give a shit about filling their own egos and making money off of you.

Also, I'm sorry about that happening to you op. Most clinical psychologists and psychiatrists are pretty dumb and tend to get shocked very easily, so them dropping you likely doesn't reflect you being a lost cause. I was able to shocked a hospital psychologist at 15 by just mentioning the fact that I had been starving myself and had a nightmare about my step-mother to trying murder me. That's it! Don't take them dropping you to heart. They don't know shit.

Sorry about that misinformation. My acquaintance often mention changing their drugs and doses after their therapy sessions and I just assumed that the therapist was the one doing that. I have never sought mental health support myself and I am not familiar with the processes but it truly sounds and looks terrifying. I am sorry about your personal experiences as well. I have never witnessed mental health officials helping those who are truly suffering in real life anyway. So, I am not surprised at all that that is the standard everywhere. The spoiled rich acquaintances of mine are the only ones who keep praising the mental health institutions and some even advice me to visit one just so I can get prescribed antidepressants which they claim is a drug that everybody needs.

I can't imagine what terrible thing happened, that it seems difficult for specialists... It seems to me that looking for a good therapist is like searching for the golden fleece. And this has always been so upsetting because this area seems to serve for human comfort and health... I wish you good luck in finding a good specialist if you are still motivated to look for one

I know it might seem hopeless, I've been in your position before, but I promise you will find a good one eventually. I've had probably about 9 therapists over the corse of 6 or 7 years, and I've finally found one I really like that takes me seriously and listens and gives me better perspectives on my issues and how to handle them, I've been seeing her for about over 2 years now. For reference I have a lot of diagnosed mental disorders that are considered "difficult" to treat that a lot of therapists won't work with like bipolar disorder, OCD, and PTSD and I still managed to find someone willing to work with me. I personally recommend seeing someone who does private practice versus someone who works at a big mental health institution, theres a huge difference in the quality and I've personally found the private practice therapists to be a lot better and more understanding. I know a lot of people on here would disagree with me but the medication I was put on by a psychiatrist for my bipolar disorder has helped the intensity of my episodes immensely. I hope you are able to find the quality help you need and I'm happy to answer any questions you have or just talk if you need to!

I've had this happen to me multiple times, I didn't even know it was a thing therapists could do. It sucks that finding a mental health professional is hard, and finding a good therapist that sticks with you long term is a pipe dream to me. It's weird how the more severe your symptoms are the less help there is for people. But hey, people have survived jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, so maybe there's hope for us after all.
