An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.
Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.
I have been struggling to pick a date (and, quite frankly, a method, but I still have time for that), so I feel like it would be cool if I could spend the last couple years of my life with a pet, whom I'd provide my accumulated love and care, and then ctb within a week of their death. What do you think? Has anybody considered anything similar?

Oh yes. If you have enough power and enough will to live to care for a dog: do it. Rescued my dog from shelter is one of the best things I ever did. Did you ever had a dog? Having a dog spend a lot of love. But it also is a burden, because he is always with you and you have to go for a walk also on very difficult days. And I don't want to leave him for suicide. My first dog and now my second dog saved my soul. Dogs are absolutely wonderful...

That is the sweetest thought. I think it's a wonderful choice provided you can care for an elderly dog in its old years. You can help the dear pass on when it's ready and follow it home too if you decide to go through with CTB then. And if not, maybe you can help rescue more older dogs and give them a peaceful life.
that was my intent. i went to pet cafe's after my last dog died. i was just hoping to maybe volunteer at a shelter? but no. i saw a worker just yanking a dog on a leash so... i went back and now she's mine. so i can't ctb for like another 10 years. whatever. maybe there will be better methods by then.
Yes, I understand that well! Having a dog is really good for the soul.
But an old dog in particular costs more money, perhaps it needs special food, becomes chronically ill, or has pain. And what do you do if you have to do military service? Who can take the dog then? I love anyone who is willing to adopt a dog because this topic is very close to my heart. Nevertheless, you have to be willing and able to commit to something for several years, in terms of time, money and society. I am incredibly sorry that things are difficult in your country, it is a catastrophe for generations of traumatized people. I really hope you find a way out!!
Maybe you can share a dog with someone else? Are there people around you with a dog? Maybe you can help another person with his dog, in my case I am searching for someone, who can care for my dog on some weekends. That would be really helpful for me, more then you can imagine. Maybe this is something you can do in your town? I know, it's not exactly the same, but being with a dog can be helpful!
Back when I was like 12, we adopted a 10 year old dog who was sick and stuck in a bad shelter. We started off fostering him, but we quickly decided to adopt him when we realized no one else would take him.
Regen makes a good point, he needed more medicine and vet appointments than most dogs. But none of us regret the decision. He was very sweet to us, he had this hilariously frizzy beard and he loved lying around the house, but he'd also go for walks. He only lived a couple more years, but it was really gratifying to know that we gave him those years and he wouldn't have had them otherwise.

It's true, the dog will most likely require more care. I don't mind though, I don't have anybody else to take care of.
If I have to do military service, I'll give the dog to a person that loves dogs and whom I trust implicitly and then will ctb before the army can take me.
The idea of helping someone with a dog sounds cool, I might consider that instead!
