It's sad to be poor.
My current desktop is an old one, a intel i7 2600 with LGA1155 socket, only supporting ddr3... and I have 8gb ram stick since 2020.
I'm using a linux distribution because Win10 was no longer suitable for, not only for the end of support, also for the frequent blue screens.
But it have a constant bleep who probably demonstrates a memory problem or issue. Sure, I can run it, I can run Brave Browser with a few tabs and LibreOffice writer, but occasionally it frozen.
Sure, its time to change my pc, but I'm poor and have almost 1000 dollars in debt, and since I live in a South America Country, 1000 dollars is a huge amount of debt.
If I lost my old pc definitely, I can't write fiction with ease. Sure, I can use my cellphone, but the experience and the effectiveness will not be the same.
Perhaps at 2026 I can save money to a basic desktop...

It's an old specs computer and for example my old Windows XP retro gaming PC already had it's RAM replaced five times and the graphics card twice. It's always a question of time till something fails on a computer. I don't know if it's the same thing in the US but look for a small Dell or Lenovo computer often with the "USFF" or "SFF" in the name.

I recently got 2 Lenovo USFF mini computers with a Intel i5 7th gen CPU , 8gb RAM and some 128gb Samsung OEM SSD's for a total of 104,46$ in Euro currency on eBay.

A lot of companies are now getting rid of those computers because they don't have TPM chip which makes them not compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore but you still can install Linux on it or eventually burn Windows 11 installation USB Flash Drive with Rufus where you can bypass hardware requirements and the forced Microsoft account requirement. You don't even have to activate Windows to use it and it won't lock you out after certain period of time like it was the case on Windows XP or Windows 7

The Windows 10 phase out was unfortunate. They did extend the security updates for another year if you do one of three things. Two of them are free. I did the backup option. Just signed into my account, told it to only backup settings, and then activated the extension. Afterward I removed my M$ account and switched back to the local login. The updates are still working fine.
