A few years ago my mom started always commenting on my teeth that they look really yellow and pointing it out, it made me feel like shit because they had never been like that before and her constantly reminding me of it just made me feel like shit.
Next time I went to the dentist he pointed it out too. He prescribed an antibiotic mouthwash to me, said that I have "benign bacterial staining" and that the mouthwash (if used twice a day for two months) may eliminate the bacteria and stop the staining. After my check up I got the mouthwash, used it as directed for two months. My insurance only covers a check up once a year, so it was another 10 months before I saw him again. The staining came back, so the mouthwash obviously didn't work. Next time I saw him he said there was not really anything else they could do if the antibiotic mouthwash didn't work.
The staining goes away when I see a dental hygienist, but my insurance only covers that once every 6 months. When I see a hygienist, they've always told me that I have good brushing and that there's very little that I miss. I brush twice a day and floss. Still, I get this shit on my teeth. After she cleans my teeth the staining is usually gone for about 3 weeks before it comes back. So for a little over 10 months out of the year I have yellow stained teeth.
It is not my fault. I brush my teeth and have good oral hygiene. I have been told that by a DENTAL HYGIENIST. Even an actual dentist said that there's literally nothing I can do. I just at some point acquired this oral bacteria that causes the staining. Can't get rid of it. It's not like I'm neglecting my dental hygiene. I know this is a first world problem and I should be happy that I have no real serious health problems, but it just makes me feel like shit about myself because my teeth are noticeably yellow. I used to have really nice teeth too, before this happened.
