"I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all those french beaches I'd never see..."

It still amazes me how unique and thought provoking that movie was. So many philosophical quotes and deep thoughts. What are your thoughts about it?

I like the nihilistic aspects of it. When you focus on those, the whole message can become quite liberating. The general image of humanity it portrays (not far from reality) can be a bit depressing.

I guess that it's a great portrayal of nihilism? Love a movie with seriously nihilistic characters. See also: Breathless, and the Doom Generation.

Also, greetings from Gainesville ;)

Have you seen it? If not, you have to drop everything you're doing and watch it now lol. I will check out the two titles you recommended as well, I love movies like that.

Sincere apologies regarding the grave insult of your honor, madam, I never meant to commit to such shameful accusations!

Extra bonus points if you read it in this guy's voice:

Well alrighty then. I'll consider it a one time mistake, albeit a grievous one ;).

I am a major cinefile. I try not to be the pretentious, douche-y kind, but often not successfully.

One of my favourite films/book. It's aged very well too. The film messages about masculinity and society and consumerism have only become more relevant over time.

This is my favourite scene:

Ah, that is one of my favorite scenes as well! And that's a refreshing point you made, you're right, it does actually relate more and more to society as time goes on!! Thank you for that realization. One of my favorite quotes is: "Eventually the things you own, end up owning you".

I am jack's lack of will to live lol.

"We're a generation of men raised by women. I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need."

Not being raised to scrap has really damaged my socialization.

It's a strange thing.

' going into town for a fight ' is a quote from one of my work mates .

If we had done the violence , maybe we would have bonded ?
Is that the idea ?
Instead I still hate his guts .

The problem with pandas though is that they are an evolutionary cul-de-sac. Originally carnivorous, they have been forced to adapt to become herbivorous, most likely due to their primary meat-based food source(s) becoming unavailable, but haven't developed the longer digestive tract required to allow them to absorb the required nutrients from their current food source.

Other than that though, my favourite movie also :smiling:

Also the Chinese have a monopoly on pandas. All pandas are leased and their offspring have to be returned to China. There's a couple that are an exception but they will die soon and they're too old to give birth. Back to fight club and putting bullets between the eyes of ever panda... :P

I was unapologetically rooting for the bear to kill the guy, with maximum pain. Take your Darwin Award and schedule an emergency vasectomy so you don't contaminate the gene pool any further.

Ok, it was pretty sophomoric, but I laughed in spite of myself at "not so cuddry anymore!"

Sophomoric, learned a new word today. I think most humor can be described that way. The only exception is The New Yorker. But that's not humor, that's simply shite.

Disagree. Some of the best comedy is cerebral. I'll send you some.

Fight club might be open to many interpretations but that's the most foolish one I've heard.

It's almost amazing that that film got actually made in a Hollywoodian context. It goes so much against all the norms of society and the necessary "feel happy" mandate of Hollywood
