If a person jumped off a bridge to to a fresh water lake in the middle of winter where it is very cold outside, would that person go into shock from how cold it is outside and have hypothermia and die. I have heard different things on this would it be a fool proof way to die?

Probably not a very good method. You don't die instantly from hypothermia after jumping in cold water, it could take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and wouldn't be pleasant at all.

I've swam in a snowmelt runoff river cold enough to get hypothermia in before for only about a minute and it hurts so bad like getting freezer burn on your whole body it would just be an awful way to die imo.
