Ive become addicted to cutting my palms and wrists.

I really want to stop but its like the feeling of the endorphin's and seeing my blood gives me some type of high.

If anyone overcame this addiction please give me some advice I need it really bad rn.

Thanks

Sounds so stupid, but going for a walk, getting away from where you can cut can work sometimes.
For me it was two things at once. Walking/going to the town gardens to sit and listen to music or playing video games for long periods of time.
It is hard to overcome the addiction to cutting for sure and the want to see blood.

I had a problem as a teenager, I started because I just wanted to feel something. I spend a lot of time emotionally numb drifting through the day.

What finally got me to stop was finding different ways to channel the energy, go for a walk, sit in a coffee shop. Put yourself in a position where you can't do it.

Saying that I guess I do still self-harm these days, but in a socially acceptable manner - by eating super hot chillies or things with chilli in. You get the same endorphin fix but without the physical damage to your skin.

I know this also probably sounds stupid but.. suppress the feeling, like.. do it with an object that won't cut through your skin; Or scratch your skin with you nails, pinch it, wrinkle it(?).. I don't know, these have worked in the past for me but I very much still haven't overcome it. Oh and also wearing stuff that makes it annoying and frustrating.. As far as seeing the blood, well I tried getting the same kick spilling ink or just anything that reminds me of blood. Can't think of anything else right now, sorry. Just remembered - If I can feel the desire coming I play a song called ''Cut Self Not'' by Faraquet and it's enough to distract me.

"Self-Injury Recovery & Awareness or "SIRA" for short, focuses on filling the massive gap of care for the self-injury community by teaching them how to heal from the inside-out, through a peer-to-peer support group model."

I have had problems with extreme self harm for most of my life, I've quit for a few years before. The main things that helped me at the time were doing other things to exhaust myself, usually running, hitting pillows, or engaging in less extreme modes of self harm. Sometimes I would throw ice cubes at the ground, or hold onto an ice cube until it melted.

Another important thing is cultivating an attitude towards yourself that is not conducive to self harm: thinking of yourself in a better light, avoiding punishing yourself.

It also helps to be mindful of how exactly you feel when cutting. Are you really happier? How much self harm do you really need to engage in before you feel better?

I went from hitting myself, cutting myself on the subway, throwing myself off of short buildings, to being clean for almost a year. If you'd like any particular advice, I would be happy to share.

yeah ive been walking a lot, usually like 3 miles day, plus a lot of time in the gym but my main problem is my dopamine is low so at night i get super bored and then relapse.

Some people wear hair ties on their wrists to fidget with instead of cutting there. It is somewhat of a distraction tool.
