I've gotten the swelling in my forearms for years. I've never given into it. I am seriously considering it. I'm just fucking sitting on a discord call, not saying a word, I've got a big ol bandaid and razor blade in hand.

I know it's going to feel good to just do it, but I also know I'm probably gonna regret it. But it just isn't going away, it's all I've been thinking about all day.

The only way I am able to resist is by keeping my hands busy, usually with sewing. Even something like typing or writing may keep you from doing it, so you can use a google doc or journal to write down shit. Moving sharps to a space separate from where you are right now might help too. Sorry if this doesn't help, I know it is really hard to resist.

I usually think about doing in intense detail or imagine someone i care about doing it. For some reason, it makes me sick to my stomach. Keeping yourself busy with something intense (ie. exercise) can also help. I hope you feel better friend. I understand your pain.

Things I've tried include: drawing on the area with a red pen to simulate cutting, using an elastic band to ping the area to give a bit of pain without actual damage, a short burst of intense exercise that causes muscle ache like situps.

It snowed here for the first time this fall today, I'm not worried about hiding it. I'm using razors from my old box cutters. I accidently cut my finger on them so many times that I had to swipe some walmart safety box cutters whenever i went lol. (I have disinfection wipes)

I guess I could play one of my guitars, I don't really have anything specific to vent to my notes rn

Havent self harmed since like 2018 or 19. I honestly dont know how I managed to stop. 50% a promise I made to a family member to stop and 50% mind games I play with myself. I think the true form of self harm is never feeling a sense of relief. And cutting and burning myself made me feel better. Even if it was just for a few minutes. Sometimes it was a punishment for thinking or feeling a specific thought/feeling. Depriving myself of that momentary relief is the most harm I can do to myself. Now the only self harm I practice is just drinking too much and depriving myself of a decent nights sleep. The best idea I have is hold a handful of ice cubes and feel them melt. Sounds really dumb but I used to do that to stop myself from punching holes in the wall when I was really going through it. You can feel a burning sensation but youre not actually harming yourself and youre not going to scar. Theres also the ol'rubber band around the wrist thing but I definitely over did that one so I'd be careful with it if youre extra compulsive

In residential treatment they gave us frozen oranges to hold when we felt the urge (or just emotional in general). The TIPP acronym from DBT (I know, the therapy I just said is pointless) is actually good for this.
- (Extreme) Temperature
- Intense Exercise
- Progressive Muscle relaxation
- Paced Breathing

that seems like a very difficult situation. Heavy music and pacing around may help. Whenever i get the urge i try my best not to sit still.

Cant promise itll work for you but i try to tunnel vision into something rlly mentally demanding like actually getting around to doing my reaserch project or a mentally demanding stratergy game. Turning off all the lights and anything that can distract me from the moment and keeping my hands and mouth occupied at all time (usually chewing and playing with plastic lol). I crank the thermestat quite high aswell so im just sweating to death (idk why that helps but it does). Cant promise itll help but its all i got
