How do journalists find out about normal non-famous people suicides?

I'm planning on ctb in a 4 or 5* hotel chain as they might be less likely to talk to journalists compared to a cheap independent hotel?

How can I prevent my suicide from getting in the press?

Why do you care though? They find out through police I guess. Anyway a non-famous person commiting a suicide would hardly be big news.

Non famous people's suicides are in the news all the time. I'd prefer mine to stay out of the news both for myself and for my family

Not in my country. It's very common for non famous people's suicides to be in the news with their name and photos

You're planning on ctb'ing in a hotel room so it depends whether the staff will inform the journalists or not which you can never guarantee. I think your suicide will also be more likely on the news if you choose a strange method or if your family tells your story on various media. In any case I advise you not to worry much about it because there will always be talking in your town but it will eventually fade away.

Thank you for your help. Like you said I guess I can't control whether it gets out or not, considering I'll be doing it in a hotel. I don't want to do it at home and traumatise my family though, so I'll have to risk it. And you have a point about it being the talk of the town for a while anyway

Honestly, with a non famous person it would depend if it was a slow news day.

If you could find a way to ctb that can't immediately be attributed to suicide, it's another death and not as likely to be reported.

Depending on your country or location, I would say it would likely not be reported. The only time they are in the news in my area is when they involve an officer involved shooting or public safety issue. I think its avoided now to prevent outbreaks of copycat suicides.

My guess is that it would be reported and be talked about in a small town. Are you able to choose a large city?
In my area, media reports " Person x died suddenly on November 6th" for example.

Good point. I'm doing SN so it would look peaceful and not like a suicide at first at least

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't considered this. Will definitely go for a big city

Ways to stay out of the news: Don't do it in public, don't use an unusual or interesting method, don't hurt anyone else, don't endanger a cop, don't cause property damage.

Regarding SN, it turns your blood chocolatey brown. It's how your blood doesn't hold oxygen anymore. SN can be deduced pretty quickly.

I've wondered this myself. I would guess that one factor would be the way one ctb's - for example if one ctb's via train or jumps from a tall building that is bound to have an effect, get you mentioned.

Most likely the hotel staff will not contact the media. I couldn't imagine any establishment in the hospitality industry wanting to bring attention of such a negative event to the public at their place.

You just have to worry about psychotic mothers in denial bringing it up to the media and blaming everyone but themselves.

My thinking is your thinking should be more thinking about yourself now, and using what mental energy you have thinking about whether this is the right decision for you, researching your method thoroughly if that is what you decide. I am kind of old, but the way journalists used to pick up local news items was a police beat reporter would look at the police blotter to get facts about police calls. There is probably some electronic version nowadays, but again, my thought is you can't control those type things, and you cannot predict whether your day would be a slow news day to warrant an article, or not.

And if your description of your mother is accurate, there is absolutely no way to outthink what she may or may not do. I suggest you devote your thoughts more to a plan to minimize any concerns you have.

What others said about suicides being not big news is mostly correct. Sure, there may be a few small news outlets that may broadcast it, if it is really unique and they don't have other news to report. As far as preventing others from getting into the news, I suppose in your note you would write to keep it confidential and secret and hope that the authorities and news reporters will respect that. As for family, it's hard to say since you can't control them (especially after you are gone) but for authorities, I'm sure they generally respect it and may just report a death as a death, but not specifics.

Thank you for your kind words. You're definitely right, it's time to think about myself for once. I'm too damn nice (read: doormat) and spent my whole life putting everyone else above me. It got me nowhere.
The fact I'm still worrying more about how my death will affect abusive people, rather than the actual death itself, says it all really.

I think you're right in that journalists get these stories from the police calls, which is impossible for me to control. So I'll have to stop worrying about that and worry about myself for once instead

Another factor is when we speak of the 'media' I assume we are speaking of the MSM (Main Stream Media) as opposed to social media, and one might end up being discussed in that arena instead.

However that said, I can't help but think of the mrcaringuy YouTuber that scans the internet for suicide news. One could end up with their cbt in one of his videos.

It's disconcerting I know. I don't want to make any kind of vain exit—the quieter I go the better.

I suppose one might argue that it's all relative, as nobody wants their self deliverance written into the archives of the grand scheme of things—there are worse ways to exit. for example I recently watched a documentary about the late Elvis Presley, one of the most famous American musicians who ever lived, and he died while sitting on the toilet.

Yikes! I am wondering if you are my daughter. I subjected her to 30 years of narcissistic child abuse. There's no way that I can atone. On 16 February 2017, she told me that I was a narcissistic child abuser, and I died.
I still have vital signs, but my life ended at that moment.

It sounds obvious, but a suicide won't show up in the news unless it's newsworthy. That clearly varies by country, but there are themes.

A suicide that hurts someone else is newsworthy. So is a suicide with a link to a newsworthy trend; you could end up in the news if you use SN or N, or if police find your posts on SS, because suicide drugs and suicide websites are newsworthy topics in many places. Suicides by famous people, obviously, and suicides that have a wider impact -- so your death could make the news if it triggers a suicide cluster. Suicides that play into big public controversies are newsworthy, including assisted suicide anywhere that it isn't legal.

In most parts of the Western world, or at least the US, individual suicides rarely make the news. But OP is right that they're commonly reported in some parts of the world -- when reporters know they're suicides. Unless your death is otherwise newsworthy or the morgue reports every single cause of death to the local newspapers, the odds are almost always against it.

Also: OTC toothache drops and cough lozenges containing Benzocaine (topical anesthetic) left around (and discussed prior?) might create a _very thin smokescreen_
Benzocaine OTC can cause a _rare_reaction similar to SN. (Methemoglobinemia).
This is a long shot.
