Am a bit caught...
I don't want to traumatize my wife if she finds me, so I have to ctb and somehow notify 999/911 that I'm offing myself and have time to complete before they break down the door.
Planning on partial. The necessary bits and bobs are in place, affairs in order.
How much time does a partial take for me to be irretrievably? Closest police station is 10 mins away, ambulance 20mins.
Email and texting not really an option as I would have a limited time window as I'm rarely left alone more than 90mins...

Too risky, 10 minutes is not enough time.

If it's just a matter of not wanting your wife to find you, don't do it at home. Car, hotel, woods, there are other options. You need to allow yourself more time. I've resuscitated partial or full hangers. A body can be revived if it hasn't been at least an hour after the heart stops and the brain dies.

I intend to inform my local sheriff via the email delay service LetterMeLater. That'll allow me to schedule an email with detailed instructions for the coroner and give myself plenty of time to complete the job --or to cancel the email if I fail to ctb (as has happened in the past). Leaving yourself time to fail is a good idea; partial can be difficult to succeed at.

NOTE: TimeCave, another email delay service, is NOT secure: they read a notification I had cancelled and informed the sheriff, and when a deputy showed up on my doorstep for a welfare check I had to do some fast talking to avoid being taken into custody.

No, it was a matter of privacy, not free speech; they weren't restricting my free speech in any way. TimeCave probably saw it as avoiding a legal liability issue --or just being helpful, in that annoying, pro-life way.

The incident was actually what made me decide to stop lurking and start posting --this was my first post: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/a-warning-about-timecave.7096/

What made me angriest was that 1) a supposedly deleted email was still on their server several hours after I had supposedly deleted it, and 2) they went in and read it at the time when I contacted them specifically to make certain it would not be read. I can imagine any number of scenarios why they did what they did, but none of those scenarios mean they were right to do so.

I don't recommend notifying in such a short time frame. Yes, it is true that you could use delayed messages and emails, but do steer away from TimeCave as @TiredHorse has suffered from it. Personally, I might just have a note on my computer or something so long after my death, they'll discover it or something. Or if I'm going to ctb, I might just handwrite the notes (could also trash them and stuff if I abort/fail). Chances are if I have very few attachments to anyone IRL, I might just go without a note since people just don't "get it" and I'm not going to waste my time and energy trying to justify myself.

No email is secure, with the possible exception of ProtonMail. Period; end of sentence. You can take measures to improve security, like using GPG, but those methods don't lend themselves to this application: delayed notification.

Both TimeCave and LetterMeLater have various fine print in their user agreements that state that you can't use their site for anything illegal, immoral, fattening, etc. I would guess that's industry standard. I suspect that the various fine print could be used to justify snooping, and as I wrote in my original write-up of my experience with TimeCave, my own actions may have triggered their snooping. Once they saw what was there, their fear of liability (or simple concern/pro-life-ness) may have caused them to take action. However, that doesn't explain why my email was still on their server several hours after I had supposedly deleted it, and I find that detail alarming. Maybe LetterMeLater is no better, but they haven't proven themselves unreliable, so I plan to use them.

One important detail I should have mentioned: some email delay services trigger a send-to-spam/reject response by the recipient's ISP. TimeCave was especially bad about that. LetterMeLater seems to be more widely accepted. If possible, use your chosen delay service to send an innocuous test email ahead of time, to make sure your suicide notification will go through when the time comes. I think I used LetterMeLater to send the local sheriff a question about fireworks, and it went through just fine, and the sheriff didn't seem to notice that it had come from a delay service, they just replied as if to a typical email.

If anyone has any concerns about using third-party delayed email services, an alternative would be, for example, to use Mozilla Thunderbird with the Send Later add-on. Everything is stored locally on your computer until the message gets sent from your own email address of your choosing and you can set the schedule down to more or less a minute if you want. And if you get second thoughts and choose to not go about ending your life, it's easy to cancel just by deleting the scheduled message before it gets sent and no harm is done.

You can also make Thunderbird remember your email password and automatically run at startup (here's a guide for Windows 10, for example), as well as having automatic login at startup set up on your computer, and that way it will be safe even if a sudden power outage causes your PC to restart. A note though that this will make your email account accessible to whoever finds your computer afterwards so if that is of concern to you you might want to create a new email address just for this. Do a test beforehand by sending a delayed message to some other email account you have and you are good to go. :) Also if you are sending the message to the authorities, for example, you may want to choose multiple people/addresses to send it to, just to be sure if gets read as soon as possible in someone's inbox.

Hope someone finds this useful! :)

I want to avoid traumatizing anyone, and the local police only reads emails during office hours.
There are no really remote places where no-one goes where I live.

But once the brain's dead, isn't that the end, already, really?

Attempted partial,
Interrupted by Ambulance crew
Put on 72hr hold...
Bored already...
But there's a window I can use. Not sure how the sheets will work for a ligature. Only challenge is to not wake the others in the dorm

I don't know, that sounds a little risky to me. Could you talk your way out of it and be sent home?

Dont bother trying in there, too mich chance of getting caught and then what, youll get sectioned for longer unless you actually want to be in there i suggest keeping your head down and just getting through the 72hrs. I wasnt engaging with staff, that 72hr hold was upgraded to a section 2 and then a section 3 afterwards. Attempting and failing in there is givibg them reason to keep you and proving them right that your a danger to yourself

21 day section,

Your desperation is your downfall... what I mean to say is take a step back. Research the method you think you want. Learn all the tricks and tips about it. Plan and organize yourself. You found a gift in this website. There are megathreads with most all of the questions answered.

Be brave, be strong. If you're going to succeed, you must be patient and smart about your efforts. With depression, energy to do anything is hard to come by.
