If you're afraid of something, people make it sound like you're the worst person ever. What do people usually say? "what you're scared? have some balls". Fear is certainly not a desirable emotion to have, but it is a human emotion and it is natural to have it. I don't think it makes you a bad person or that you're lacking in character or unethical if you have it.
People criticize and insult you if you're afraid of something but it makes more sense to empathize with people's fears because fear is understandable.
