I've only ever gone to a mental hospital voluntarily: twice. Both times, I was feeling very low, so I checked myself in so I could get help.

Oh my days. I've been threatened enough times and detained know hospital for my anorexia. I dont know how you've coped.

My last section was at The Priory, because there were no NHS beds.
They actually have a dedicated ward for anorexia.

Never had an overnight involuntary. I've always just signed form 1 upon their advice, because I know if I didn't, they'd certify and keep me there anyways. And it makes leaving without authorization okay, since legally speaking they can't sign a warrant out for me (although I've never done that).

My very first one was voluntary.
They somehow persuaded me, and made it sound like the right thing to do.
By the time I arrived on the ward, it was the middle of the night. I freaked (mental images of these places started racing through my mind, and I got scared) and told them to let me out.
They tried to reason with me for a while, then I was sectioned.
I've never gone voluntarily, again.Once but only overnight..There were no beds so I was sat in a room with 2 policeman for hours on end and couldn't even go to the toilet on my own it was fucking horrible

0. I'm never going anywhere near the torture prisons that are psych wards. And it isn't like I'm "mentally ill" anyway, there could never be a justified reason for me to end up in such a horrific place.

To be honest, half of the time they section me out of fear.
I'm classed as extremely high risk, and I've overdosed after being released before, so my reputation precedes me.

I've had some funny times on the wards.
We got up to all sorts.
Used to smuggle drink in, people used to bring drugs in, all sorts.
Met some really lovely people, too.
But then again, I'm a frequent flyer.

The less secured units well, aren't secured so for me, I could just walk out if I'm in a less secure unit. In a more secure unit yeah, there's no difference except you get to say no to taking drugs or treatment.Similar threads
