  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I weight 120kg. I think it's very likely that I'll die if I fall on concrete, but I want to be sure. I'm desperate

10 stories is barely enough and risky. 15 or more stories is better, or at least 45 meters.

Agree. 15 would be better. But many have died that way (defenestration) at 10 floors or even less. For example:

"U.S. government microbiologist, Frank Olson, helped establish the U.S. bioweapons program of 1943. He and a group of colleagues went on a retreat in the woods, where their drinks were spiked with LSD. After ingesting the LSD, Olson became extremely paranoid, requesting to quit the programs and devote his life to something else. Ten days later, he reportedly jumped out of his 10th floor hotel room in Manhattan."

I weigh about 108-110 pounds, do you think 15 or more stories will be best?
The higher the better and it depends how you land (per studies). If you land head first, there is a greater chance of fatality. The studies that I saw were those that wanted to commit suicide had a greater chance of dying versus those that slipped off (like a window washer).

People routinely die from literally any height, but the chances of survival is greater at lower heights.

The singer Liam Payne recently died after falling from a 3rd story balcony.

In the US around 17,000 people die each year from slipping and tripping at ground level, so even a 0 foot fall can be fatal.

The likelihood of death depends on how you land, your age, and your heath condition. People over 65 have much greater risk of death, whereas people under 40 sometimes survive 200+ foot falls. The thing about jumping is that the consequences of failure are so severe, with numerous fractures, severe trauma to internal organs, and potentially paralysis and brain injury.

Here's a page on jumping that includes a reference to the 150 foot minimum height guideline:

I weigh about 108-110 pounds, do you think 15 or more stories will be best?
It's not clear how bodyweight impacts survival from high falls, because the physics involved are extremely complicated. On one hand a lighter person has a lower mass, therefore lower force on impact. On the other hand a lighter person has less mass in their body to absorb and dampen the impact. You can see the link above for more discussion of heights, but 150 feet is the minimum recommended based on statistics. There may be buildings with fewer than 15 stories that are 150 feet tall if they have tall stories.
