My current plan is a suspension hanging from a beam in my basement, as it's the sturdiest part of my home that I can think of, but I don't actually have any idea how much weight it can hold. As an extremely large person(pushing 500lbs), I may have more reason to be concerned about an anchor breaking than most. Being as big as I am and having other mobility problems, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to confirm that It can hold my weight. I can't exactly climb onto it and jump up and down
Any insight you guys could provide would be appreciated

the way people confirm that the rope or anchor doesn't break is by dangling from the rope with their hands and doing some sort of pull ups, remember that people that hang often have convulsions.

but your case is definitely something else, are you sure that you can't at least hold on to the rope with your hands without touching the ground? if you can't then i can't see you hanging something with a similar weigth to yours from the rope to test it.

i really have no other ideas, this is not something that you can test without using your body or some sort of measuring equipment like a force gauge.

Perhaps another kind of hanging would have more of my weight on the ground, and thus less on the beam? I hear you can hang yourself laying down, or perhaps sitting on the floor and leaning over?
You seem intelligent, can you think of a common place that could definitely hold that weight? Trees keep coming to mind, but I don't actually know how much a branch can hold, and I'd imagine it would depend a lot on the branch

yea, that's partial hanging and it may be more suited towards your needs, although not many people in this forum have succeded with partial and many others think that it doesn't work because you need practice and some luck, it can definitely be done and some famous people have killed themselves with it, robin williams died this way if i'm not mistaken. maybe your weight will work for you in this type of hanging, there is a megathread about it so you should definitely read it.

and as for a place that can hold your weight, i don't know if a tree will do, or at least not any kind of tree like you said. but if you go with partial, there are many places inside your house that could hold because weight is not entirely pushed on a single object, your feet will be touching the ground so there is less force.

there are plenty of methods, if you don't find yourself comfortable with hanging, then by looking into this forum you will find a lot of options and some are surprisingly easy to aquire.

How do you guys know who succeeds and when by the way? I presume that when a regular user makes a goodbye post, tells us their methods and then never returns; that's how we know that they succeeded and what method they succeeded with?

Robin Williams wrapped a belt around his neck while the belt was also secrured in place by a closed door, and then he just bent his knees(presumably putting just enough pressure on his neck for him to pass out and unconsiously slump forward, which would put even more pressure on his neck and make sure he wouldn't wake). It seems like a good way to go out, and I was pretty much planning to do exactly that, except with a rope and the beam in my basement. But uncertainty about the beam's ability to hold my weight is now making me hesitate. Perhaps I should double up on methods, and take the SN while I have the noose around my neck. My weight gives me concerns about either one succeeding on their own, but together I'd think they would increase my chances a good bit. A problem with that is that I don't want to wait for the protonpump inhibitors to leave my system. I could be in physical agony at any moment, and every second I delay is a risk, even if it is to research deliverance methods
