Inspired by another thread but I wanted to hear thoughts on this specifically.

What strategies do people here have to make yourself go do something you really don't want to. For example constantly going to the gym? Doctor appointments, trying new things, getting out of your comfort zone, job interviews, talking to new people, etc. What activities are difficult, uncomfortable and tedious varies from person to person but so those feelings are the focus not so much my particular examples.

So how do you guys make yourself do these things that are either potentially good for you or you have to do but you *really* don't want to do in the moment. Much less be consistent at them.

Don't overthink it, don't perceive the events as bigger than they are.
Breathe slow, identify your feelings, game face, self motivate, you're made of stone mate don't forget it x

Do it quickly to get it out of the way.
Do it in steps so that the task doesn't seem insurmountable.
Promise yourself a "reward" when the task is completed.

Good advice has already been given, with which I agree.

Speaking from my experience, when I had to go out on the street alone and considering that it gave me anxiety (it still does a little) I used my cell phone to abstract myself. Sometimes I would talk on my cell phone, other times I would watch a YouTube video, things like that, and it really helped me.

Maybe you can try something like that.

I struggle with this at the present moment especially since I've almost entirely dropped out of society for the past two years. However, since I'm slowly getting back into it, or at least trying, this is my strategy.
I would say don't overthink events, constantly thinking about the situation can cause you to second guess things and lead to ruin/catastrophizing or back to apathy.
Don't procrastinate or wait to long to do it, eventually you just won't do it and inaction could harm future prospects. It could make situations worse.
Gathering strength, everything can be extremely tiring when you're blue even just cooking can feel like a chore, try to piecemeal activities so you don't get too tired too quickly.

It's not easy but sometimes you just say 'fuck it', and then quickly dive in head first and not think too much about it.

I don't fight with my uncomfortable feelings. I can be with them and do things that cause them. Usually, they just fade away after some time.

It's been almost 9 years since I've been out, or met someone outside of work. In that time, I've hugged one woman a handful of times. When you find the pill that can make you not want to throw yourself in front of a train by simply leaving the room, because there are people on the other side of that door and those people talk...
Well, I'd do anything for that pill.

Ask yourself what the end goal is, and what you're getting out of it.

Are the results worth the temporary pain/inconvenience required to achieve them, if it benefits you in the long run?
